Title: moving music to a new computer
Post by: railfan-eric28 on February 21, 2019, 06:39:44 AM
I am moving my music to a new computer with Win10, but on signing my email in on the new computer it didn't ask for a local profile sign in.   So the profile name in windows explorer is the first 5 letters of the email address instead of my name like the previous several computers.    So now I am worried about my library being screwed and the playlists being ruined and starting from scratch.   Is there a fix for my situation?

also i have a 500GB SSD as the main drive and the 2TB HDD as the second drive.   Should I put the music on the HDD or the SSD drive and is there a way to keep my library intact with that situation?

thanks

well with no help I"m trying to figure it out myself.  But "relinking music files" don't work because all I get is the damn error message over and over.   How do I get my music back?  thanks.

update:  After doing some digging I see Steven mentioning corrupt playlists causing the error message.   I have something like 40 playlists so that's a daunting task.   But after deleting two empty playlists I got lucky and that fixed the problem and my library is relinked.   Only thing is only one playlist folder was there and the rest are outside the folders and those folders are gone so i have to recreate them.   But I can't figure out how to select multiple playlists at a time to drag and drop into them so it's time consuming.

You can try closing MB and move the playlists and folders around to how you want just by using Windows file explorer. (drag-and-drop).
MB should reload the new playlist arrangement, when re-opened.

oh the playlists and their folders are in actual folders in explorer?  I did not know that.   Thanks so much.

I just looked on my old laptop and there's only one folder for the playlists on explorer but the program has folders for each type of music.   Why is that?

Please help, I"m desperate.    I just realized I"ve been listening to outdated playlists.   The newer playlist are the MBP format and are lost files.   I spent 5 minutes copying just a handful of playlists by exporting to m3u on the old computer but when i imported them into the new computer they have lost files too.   how can i relink them all.   I have like 50 playlists and it would take me 6 months to recreate them.
