This is my unexciting, somewhat unoriginal layout. I like everything like I had it when I used iTunes with the exception of the sidebar on the right which I enjoy especially when it is showing synchronized lyrics. I have my columns laid out just how I like them. You may notice that the Comment field may seem like a waste of space in this screenshot but I use it a lot, especially for show tunes and theme songs where I like to put which musical or show the song is from and what character sings it. Previously, before switching to MusicBee, I also used the Comment field to enter featured artists. Multiple artists tags and the Display Artist is one of the main reasons that I love MusicBee.

Sfre, that's a really nice layout. I like the artwork without the name and album. I think that I couldn't use it like that but it looks great.

I thought i would share my layout too. I swap a lot between having the controls in the top pane or in the side pane. Also there isn't much content in this as this is a new install on my laptop and i haven't imported my music yet, so am just left with the windows 7 sample files.

Under Edit>Preferences>Hotkeys. You assign a hotkey to the three layouts and 'tick assign to a toolbar as: ...' for each one.

It is Honeycomb theme, and you spotted the brighter fonts well. I just edited the theme a bit to fit my preferences and one of them was (maybe the only one apart from layout adjustment) a bit brighter fonts. The only different font is in the "main player" panel (bottom right) and is Century Gothic 11,25 size.

I have been trying to get mine looking exactly like this.
I have been able to get the skin colour, the Genre, Artist etc across the top but I cant get the pictures down the bottom and the track info/lyrics in a separate window.
Is anyone able to help with this?

This is my main setup. So far so ordinary, although it's worth noting that the five tabs are locked open and that all of the tabs excluding Search Tab are locked to a specific screen.

This is my album viewer however, which I'm quite pleased with. I've created a custom tag called 'Complete Album', and for any albums for which I own all the tracks, I mark complete album as 'Yes'. Then in this tab, I apply a library filter which only displays tracks marked with my custom tag and set the tab view to Artwork - Group by Album. This gives me something pretty similar to the iTunes Coverflow feature, but significantly more usable. Note that the current filter also only displays 5* tracks - this excludes several complete albums.
EDITS - Getting/failing-to-get the pictures to show up. Silly me.

I use specific playlists to launch the less played of my tracks instead.

The highlighting looks a bit redundant in the screenshot, since the playcount is also exposed. But when I'm scrolling I can't easily identify the tracks marked '0', so the highlighting just allows me to notice 'clusters' of unplayed tracks easily.

Depends on what you mean by 'sections' exactly. The filters in that screenshot? Right click on Music in the left pane, filters, manage filters. You'll also want to make sure they're showing.
Playlist folders is easy - right click on playlists and choose New Folder.

You can change fonts under 'Preferences>Layout'. Other fonts might need changing from individual panel menus (in general, just right click the panel and choose customise panel settings).

Yeah the thing is only "true type font" are shown, so alot of the fixed width fonts dont display.

I guess if they're not there, you can't use them. Have you tried Googling for TrueType fixed width fonts and seeing if any of those suit your needs?

Here is my current configuration. Using the supernova theme, many thanks to the creator. I have a red themed laptop and this theme compliments my machine very well. Also, the red font and black background is easy on the eyes, especially during late night sessions.
My favorite parts of this layout includes the genre column on the left side of the screen (great for playing music that matches my guests tastes or my own mood), the large artwork display is perfect for displaying my painstakingly gathered high res album art collection (album artwork is often unappreciated these days in digital libraries), and the pane on the bottom lets me gather more information on the song/artist (this is great when hunting down missing albums or tracks).
Other tidbits I love about MusicBee in general include the wave bar, it looks so much better then a plain old status bar, my Milkdrop 2.2 visualization (not visible in screenshot), and the ability to sort my library by album artist and by year at the same time. Oh yeah, also the fact that this awesome program is free! I have used many "premium" media players such as J River, Mediamonkey, etc... none of them compare to MusicBee!
Just wanted to share and show my appreciation for the great application and its dedicated fanbase! 8)

I use miniLyrics to automatically retrieve synchronized lyrics and save them into the song file.

I like to appreciate the album cover (after the music itself is the most important part of the album). That's why I leave the cover of the largest possible size. And keep the player "essentially minimalist".
My organization settings:
Music library organized by year. (Album cover section without titles, I consider not necessary)
Artist list organized by music count.
My library only has complete discographies. (I have a secondary library of over 10,000 songs with partial organization.)
Album with covers in high resolution (some of them manually collected and scanned - other of them edited in photoshop - most of them downloaded from google image search in advanced search by resolution - some others downloaded from amazon ou artist website).
A tab for most played songs.
Tags revised in official sites and wikipedia artist or album pages.
My computer is offline, so deactivated the image of artists and lyrics.
Cover files are named "folder.jpg" in all folders.
the organization of folder and files in explorer is:
artist > year - album name > track # track title.ext

Ah yes, well I gave up when I realized all my Helvetica fonts were OTF and MusicBee apparently only likey the TTF, but MacType seems like an interesting thing I may have to look into at a later, less lazy date.
At least you inspired me to end my ridiculous dalliance with monospace OCR and go back to using an acceptable adult human font (Liberation Sans Narrow), so thanks!

It's an older version of a skin that I was working on that ended up looking a lot like silvestreccf's PURENIGHT Blue (http://getmusicbee.com/addons/skins/7/purenight-blue-musicbee-skin/) skin. I definitely recommend checking that out, although if for some reason you still want mine I can send you my (unfinished) xml file. I've strayed away from the blue/black theme lately, but I still have old save files--or newer ones--if you're interested.

Thanks for the reaction Fluke. A minimal flat theme without any bevel/shadow effects so you can't tell the different panels apart, whole thing looks like an artboard, fantastic. Everything appears to be perfect, the only thing I would want to change would be the tab icons (music, podcasts etc) anyways would love to try yours out, if possible. I also like your choice for the colors, would like to try all that's available.

I've just recently discovered MusicBee and can't get over how fantastic it is. I think I've finally found my replacement for Winamp.

This is my layout, I coudn't make new skins for the new Musicbee. I'm using the Cotton skim by redwing, to me the best with the new functionalaties. I love a clean layout. PS. I did the most played songs in thumbnail browser using a virtual list and not the the 25 most played list. It did not look so beutful, but it was what I could do.

took me a bit until I was satisfied styling the player,but here is my take on making a good looking functional player.
Left Sidebar (mostly for artist Bio these days) is hidden and same goes for the thumbnail browser (used for Artists mainly) but can be made visible as needed either with click or shortcut key.
I use all View options regularly except artist view and have styled and made custom views etc for all of em. Now playing or theater view rarley get used by me and Music Explorer & Last.fm Node get used from time to time to discover some new Music in my collection.
I switched from MediaMonkey some time in 2011 and even after customizing that player for ages it never looked as good or was functioning as well as MusicBee does,so congratz to the creator,well done!!.oh yeah here are some picks (still playing around with fonts as of now):

I posted mine a while back but I've made a few small updates. The biggest change was putting genres in the left panel for filtering albums in the main panel, where I have the albums grouped by album artist. I have the Details and Tracks on separate tabs I can switch between depending on what I want to see. I like having a really large album art view in the main player but also want to see the playlist if necessary. This is the Dark-Fine Tuned Teal skin with some small modifications.

If you're like me, you're both lazy (time efficient, as I like to say) and believe Christmas comes AFTER Thanksgiving - not before or during!
Thus, I needed to be figure out how to automate the appearance of Christmas music in my (one and only) library, without having to click on filters, set dates or all the things ambitious people do.
Inspired by this comment...
The only thing I use a second library for is my holiday music. The reason is that if I put it in my regular library, then I have to go to a lot of trouble to filter it out of all my playlists, filters, searches, etc and it's not worth the effort for music I use about 1 month a year.
...I set out to not only build a Christmas-themed skin, but also incorporate a panel into my one and only library that only displays holiday music during the period that holiday occurs. And it's not limited to just the Christmas season - Halloween, or any timeframe really works! "But Mr. Incredible Boom Boom, doesn't Thanksgiving change every year," you might wonder... Yes, and that's accounted for! Next year, Turkey Day is 11/24 and so the panel will be blank from 11/01 through the end of the 24th!

I don't mind it (it's if cool enough), but @SonicRings, you can add width=xxx to your screenshots to make them shorter, then wrap them image tag in a link tag so people can click to view the full size.
I'm glad you like it! I made it by manually stitching multiple screenshots in photoshop. But how did you get the large artist pictures to the left of the main panel? That seems to be what controls what albums are displayed in the main panel.

Although you can save layouts, it seems to me that if you remove the main player controls from the bottom panel in one arrangement, it removes it everywhere. Is that right? Is there a way around that?

I am guessing it is the 'Artists' view, with the width set to display one column, and 'show the tracks for the selected album or artist' set to: 'to the right of the main panel'.
Were you able to get it? I honestly don't remember at all how I moved the artist photos to the left.

Yes, that is correct and there isn't a way around it. The Main Player Controls either persist or they don't. For me, I don't really care to use them, because I want the extra display space for album and track details.

I'm interested in the Track Information on the right panel. Notice how the information underneath the album art is sometimes separated by lines and the info extends for several lines. Currently the configuration for Track information only allows for 7 fields. How might they have achieved this? Is skin manipulation or something else?

You can use a semicolon to mark new lines in the Track Information panels. Probably what this individual is doing is using the $Replace() function and with the <Genres> tag to replace slashes or whatever the split character is with semicolons.

Lord, I wish there were an automatic way.
I try to tag them when I'm listening, especially when at work.
My references are (mostly) RYM (https://rateyourmusic.com) and Wikipedia.

You can automate it in various ways, but i won't be accurate, and sometimes it will be plain wrong.
If you are a little demanding when it's about genre tagging and want reliable and consistent genre tags, listening + manual tagging is the only way.
I'm pretty sure AI technology already exists to help reliably for this but, as far as i know, it's not available as a non-business tool.

Lord, I wish there were an automatic way.
I try to tag them when I'm listening, especially when at work.
My references are (mostly) RYM (https://rateyourmusic.com) and Wikipedia.
I honestly suspected as much. I'm using RYM for manual genre tagging already, though only album based, and it's a great resource. Really hoping to get some of the descriptors and credits from there with the use of a future plugin. Luckily, we're getting the Sonemic API very soon. It's definitely going to happen this year. I think someone made a promise regarding that...
You can automate it in various ways, but i won't be accurate, and sometimes it will be plain wrong.
If you are a little demanding when it's about genre tagging and want reliable and consistent genre tags, listening + manual tagging is the only way.
I'm pretty sure AI technology already exists to help reliably for this but, as far as i know, it's not available as a non-business tool.

Yeah, I know you're right about manual being the only way currently. And no tags at all are generally better than wrong tags as it's easier to fix once a proper tool does becomes available.
Your thread was an interesting read so thank you for that. I've actually been thinking about that topic more and more lately myself, what's going to be possible when technology like that is applied to musical tagging. Hopefully that future solves some issues and isn't too far away.

It looks like it, thanks! They didn't work very well with my theme in their original state though as the background is almost completely black, but I should be able to edit the ones I need to make them more visible.

You want to look at the $Now() function but for this you will need to install the Additional Tagging and Reporting Tools plugin.

I also fished out an old portable 15" monitor I used to use when I was hot desking and using Wallpaper Engine. I mounted it on my wall and I set it up to display the artwork and song details of whatever I was playing in Musicbee. I need to make a better graphic for the vinyl label but so far I love this setup:

Do you mean that your laptop displays a picture of the album cover playing, integrated in an other picture dynamically ?

There is a program called Wallpaper engine that allows you to make dynamic desktop wallpapers. I have it setup to run on a secondary external monitor which I have plugged into my PC via USB. In it's default state the wallpaper looks like this:

This wallpaper is composed of five layers: a background image, three empty text boxes positioned on top of a vinyl record label, and a blank black vinyl record sleeve. There is a MediaPropertiesListener function running which is setup to detect media playing in MusicBee. When a song is played, the function retrieves the album artwork, album artist, album name, and song title. Then the black vinyl record is replaced by the artwork of the currently playing song, and the empty text boxes are filled with the corresponding song information.
I really do like this as I miss looking at album artwork since moving from physical to digital media, and I generally run Musicbee minimized as need to have multiple applications, windows and terminals open for my work.

Back in the old days, when i was using Winamp, i've done something somehow similar, by combining Rainmeter and CDArtDisplay.

But instead of album cover it was artists pictures.
If i remember properly, the progress bar, artist tag, track title tag, genre tag, lyrics and static graphical elements were displayed with Rainmeter.
Nowadays, i still use Rainmeter to decorate with black shapes and computer monitoring, + regular wallpapers behind all of this; then i just run Musicbee in compact mode on top of it all to display all the track related elements and artists pictures.
Like you, it's displayed on a secondary screen, but it's not a screen used only for this, i use it also to work and can cover Musicbee with other windows.

OMG, Pearl Jam. Now that brings back some memories. It was 1992 and we were traveling from Bakersfield, CA to San Francisco, CA to buy high quality quantity pot for resale back in Bakersfield. Good pot was almost nonexistent back then. What memories. LOL I remeber listening to Pearl jam for hours on the 600 miles round trip. Thanks for the mems.
