Updated XML: http://www.mediafire.com/?wmyx6xvdyrk8mjc

What changed:
- disabled buttons color adjusted.
- disabled text color adjusted.

Those who use this skin as their default one, I recommend hitting the Notify button to get updates when ever they are available.
I don't foresee any right now but still, I don't want anyone still using buggy old versions.

Any chance you could reverse the star rating colors (so the star ratings are lighter gray, and the inactive stars darker)?
Also I would love it if you updated the Grey skin so the top menu is integrated into the window bar (next to the MB icon) like in the Pop pink skin.

Thanks again, great work!

Could you do the same for the Blue skin as far as the in-line menu goes?

Thanks for the feedback John.
About the star rating colors, I honesty think that the way they are right now is better. I'll send you an image so you can be the judge of that.
Regarding the Smooth Grey skin and integrated the menu, we are working on it.

That makes sense in the track detail view because the 'unrated' stars are not shown. But in album art view it doesn't work that way:

Ohhh, I see. sorry for the confusion, I thought you meant something else.
it doesn't suppose to look like that of course. I forgot all about the artwork view so it's a good thing you told me about this.

I've fixed that now, along with the tabs colors for lyrics and details on right side panel,
I'll fix the color of the button that controls the size of the artwork, and post an update.

2 things that I would like to see changed. File menu should match the title bar. Now playing control panel (when docked at bottom) is too bright, should match the darker elements of the skin. Hope you consider making these changes because otherwise it's a fantastic skin. Kudos!

I've noticed that when the player is in mini player mode, the last FM love heart stays grey instead of red when you 'love' a track.

Also is there no way you might consider changing the player control panel? I still feel that the light grey colour looks wrong and would look better if it was the same colour as the title bar.

this is by far the best skin btw!

Noted. I have updates on all of my skins coming up, so I'll fix that too for the next posting (should be in the next couple of days).

Yourpassenger, Thanks, for the feedback and the compliment :)
I like the player bar grey, so what I'll do is after the update I'll post a code that you can place in the skin making the player bar darker.

I've just check this, It should turns white. so can you see any difference between a song isn't loved to a when it is?

OK that would be great thanks! Regarding the last fm button, it turns red when in full mode, shouldn't it turn red in mini mode? I personally think the red looks better.

would be nice to see a colour variation of this skin. So instead of pink highlights have green/red/blue etc etc

just a though  :)

@yourpassenger, I was going to suggest this! I messed around for a couple of minutes and - apart from the splashscreen, it takes literally a minute to make a variation.

for instance, a blue variation (just an idea)

So which part of the skin file do I need to edit?
Title: Re: 'Pop Pink' Skin
Post by: Blinghound on January 29, 2011, 11:03:29 PM
The way I did it was to use notepad (I use Notepad++) and use the find and replace function.

There were three pink colours in Pop Pink that I needed to change (There may be more):

-228,89,122
-168,105,124
-255,119,133

I simply replaced all occurrences with blue counterparts.

If you want a particular colour scheme, or help with skinning, just ask me or Rotem K (very good with skinning) and we'll be glad to help :)

Yeah, I did notice that after I posted :), the element is

'<element id="Player.ProgressBar" bg="106,105,131" bdr="119,133,255"'

(In Bold - the corrected dull pink, now a dull blue-ish)

Blinghound, thank you very much for the tips how to customize this great Rotem K. skin  :) Rotem, I like the green variation too.  :)
Remember, the more colour variations of the skins, the more happy users, so THANK YOU once again  :)

The screenshots posted in this topic remind me the AIMP 3 Pandemic skin: http://www.aimp.ru/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Pandemic-Preview.png

I wish customization of the new skins for MB were so simple as in AIMP.
There is a colour palette in AIMP/Preferences/Interface/Skins where a user can customize colours of some skin elements using only two sliders: the first is to choose the colour form the palette, the second one determines colour intensity. All you need to customize the skin is to move the sliders to desired place... Simple, useful and very effective  :)
What do you think  ???

Should I post the idea to the Wishlist  ???

Post by: Rotem K. on January 30, 2011, 02:49:15 PM
Vx,
I can see from the link you posted, that the player doesn't change it's entire color with those sliders but only some parts do.

Anyhow, skinning in MusicBee is not as complex as you might think. give it a try, you'll be surprised.

Sure it is. but, I'm about to update the skin tonight or tomorrow, so, I would advise publishing the codes like blinghound did and not the skin file itself. and like I said, I'll add mods after the updated.

Right now I'm waiting on Steven for a few changes to some elements, and after that I'll update all skins.

Rotem, nice job on all your skins, I notice now you can change the colors .
My question is if you change the colors is there also a way to change the "Splash picture" to match the color you switch to.

I know you can just disable (show splash) but I sorta like seeing that chubby little bee on start-up.

I assume you mean the color mods. in that case, there are no splash-screens available for the other colors right now, I can easily make the change from the original PSD, but bare in mind that once you changed the colors of the xml file in your possession, every time I post an update you'll need to switch colors again. I can give you a code for a new color splash-screen but you'll need to update that yourself every update as well.

I want to start a 5th skin but keep spending my time on maintenance for those 4. so let alone branching this in those different skins.

What color do you want to use?
Title: Re: 'Pop Pink' Skin
Post by: Sarge on February 06, 2011, 09:35:50 PM
Actually I'm using your Pop Pink (love it) I only asked because I saw that color change was available to do..And then I got thinking about the splash screen.

I  was more asking out of being curious. So don't make or do anything special, and I see your points about changing back and forth if someone did change colors.

Anyway,,,thanks for enlightning me on that..I'm lovin the pink too much to change right now.
Title: Re: 'Pop Pink' Skin
Post by: Rotem K. on February 06, 2011, 09:41:46 PM
When more skins will become available, and skinning in MB will be more 'stable', meaning no new elements will be added every week, I'll reconsider branching Pop Pink to different skins with different colors. splash-screens and everything.

Title: Re: 'Pop Pink' Skin
Post by: Blinghound on February 06, 2011, 10:09:04 PM
Sounds good, I was thinking it might be nice if Steven could create skin groups in the menu for this purpose. For example, from the main skins menu, you could select another parent menu, such as 'iBee' then select between the 'Light' and 'Dark' in another menu (or any of the skin mods from Pop Pink). It would just stop the skins menu from getting too large when more and more are made. What do you think?

Hey Rotem..I used your color schemes to mess around with the pop -pink and I colored the face of the music player. it all worked good. What I'd like to do if possible is color 2 more items. The main program top bar, and also the top bar of the lyrics window, is this possible, and if so what are the names of those elements.

I have a picture here, so you can see what i'm saying

Hmm Those are the borders elements. more specifically FormBorderTop [ View  Skinning guide part 2 (http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=2497.0) for more info ]

I've noticed you're using an outdated version of the skin, so you might want to cut the Higlighted buttons elements from the new one and paste those in to your version.

Thank you very much, carloscs  :) Could you provide some screenshots that would show the new look  ???

@Rotem
Perhaps you could edit the first posts about SKIN MODS taking into consideration the Dependent Skins  ???

Yeah, I'll release the mods as dependent skins. haven't checked it yet but I hope a splash screen can be changed in a dependent skin as well.

I've just check the new dependent skins, and I can't get it to work with a different splash.
Maybe I did something wrong, maybe it just doesn't work that way right now.
I've asked Steven about it. I'll post if there is any update.

Wtf? now it does work. posted Pop Blue on the first page.

Thanks again to Blinghound for the mod.

Carloscs, I used your Pop Blue mod, bud instead Pop Pink I made it dependent on Spotify B  (one of the best skins btw) :)
All I need to do was to change the name
Code
<root dependsOn="Spotify B">
on the new skin file.
BTW, I noticed that the progress bar in mini player view is pink (not blue) when the mod is used with Spotify B. Is this correct ???

The dependent skins idea is just fantastic  :D
Thanks :-)

Rotem, your Pop Blue mod doesn't work for me. The skin file is not recognized by MB  :(

Rotem, your Pop Blue mod doesn't work for me. The skin file is not recognized by MB  :(

Can you try something for me?
leave only Pop Pink and Pop blue in the Skin Folder, move the rest of the skins to a different folder, then try to load Pop Blue.
let me know if it works then.

Yes, this time it works just fine. I like the splash screen have also been changed.
I copied all other skins back to the folder and all are visible and selectable with MB.
Thanks for the tip  :)

It's weird though,
Steven, any idea why this happens?

Rotem, is this pink box in the menu intended colour for the Pop Blue dependent skin  ???

It is intended in Pop Pink, Blue just doesn't contain an overwrite.

Add this to your skin:
Code
<!-- 17-->  <element id="Menu.DropDownCheckBox.Highlight" bg="77,102,220" />
<!-- 17a--> <element id="Menu.DropDownCheckBoxBorder.Highlight" bg="77,102,220" />

Great skin!
It's possible to get a "Pop Black", with a more neutral row highlight?

Well, if you're feeling adventurous then yeah, absolutely.

Download 'Pop Blue (http://www.mediafire.com/?3g5rdpeaokte1u2)', a "Dependent Skin" that has only the lines of code needed for changing the pink colors around the skin, into blue.

You might want to look at the Skinning guide - Part 1 (http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=2392.0), but the job is pretty straightforward and the file is well organized, so it's easy to change the highlight to any color you'd like.

And if you run any problem feel free to ask.

Best of luck,
Rotem

Rotem, could you possibly re-upload Pop Blue please? The Mediafire link is dead.

Also, with Pop Pink, I wanted to change the colour of a certain item, which I asked about here: -

http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=6950.0

I couldn't figure it out though so I gave up on it. I knew what colour codes I need to use. I just couldn't seem to find where to change them. If you are still active on the forum (I know this thread hasn't been posted in for a long time), then any help on that would be gratefully received!

Uploaded Pop Blue, here (http://speedy.sh/9JPU7/Pop-Blue.xml).

Can't really help you with the Library Explorer right now. my advice for you is to keep halving the code, until you finally see a change in the element you're looking for. minimizing the code until you're left with just a few lines, one of which for sure will change that element.

Thanks, although is there any way to download that without having to use "Tiny DM Manager"? There's only 1 download button on the page and it prompts me to download an EXE file, which is presumably that. I don't really trust any of that stuff.

EDIT - Redwing sorted me out with the lines of code that need to be changed: -

I forgot to mention it, but there is a minor cosmetic issue with this skin. When you go into Preferences - Layout (2), all of the options have light coloured rectangles around them: -

(http://i.imgur.com/XYfnblF.jpg)

This doesn't happen on any of the other preferences pages, just Layout (2).

It's not a big deal as it doesn't stop you using that preferences page, but I thought I'd let you know.

Yeah, i guess things changed with updates to the software. i'm still with v2.1.4770 in which the skin works as it was intended to.
Unfortunately, I no longer have the time to update my skins, though i'm sure it is manageable to anyone with enough will and time.

No worries. It's still my favourite skin of all of the ones I've tried, and it's not like you need to look at that Preferences screen that often anyway.

@Sigma:

Find the following lines, and remove them.

<!-- 127-->  <element id="Controls.TabBody.Default" bg="120,120,120" fg="210,210,210" bdr="100,100,100" />
<!-- 127-->  <element id="Controls.TabBody.Disabled" bg="120,120,120" fg="210,210,210" bdr="100,100,100" />

The downside is that it will make the selected tab of "device" setting no longer differentiated from the background, but still it would be better than the current.
