Title: How to choose what songs I want to sync?
Post by: bearkin on May 25, 2015, 05:24:26 AM
Hey guys. Just registered, first post, and I feel like I've tried everything here. iTunes let's you 'Check' songs to decide what songs you want to sync to your phone. I just recently imported over from iTunes to MusicBee because of the new Android I got and I can't for the life of me find out how to not sync my entire library. My library is 60k songs so it just plain and simple doesn't fit, and there's a lot of songs in my library that I don't want on my phone. I also noticed a Check feature in MusicBee but it doesn't seem to affect anything that I'm aware of.

Does anyone have the answer to this question? Or am I going to have to switch music players?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, welcome to the forum!

All you need to do is make a playlist, and sync only that playlist to your phone.  If you like iTunes method, you could create an auto playlist with the rule that the tick box must be ticked.  I've done that myself, combined with a few other rules.

Hey man, thanks for the reply. It's good to know that it sounds like there is a solution.

Right off the bat, I don't think syncing certain playlists will work. There are many playlists I have that I want on my phone but I don't necessarily want all of the songs within that playlist to show up. With the way you described it, I could get all of the songs I want on my phone, but also get a lot of ones that I don't want.

For the auto playlist thing, is there a page on the wiki explaining that? It sounds like it could work. My question to that is if I try syncing other playlists to my phone, will it sync the entire playlist or just the checked songs? And will this autoplaylist have to be visible on my phone (it's not a big deal if I have one extra playlist on my phone that I don't need as long as it solves my issue).

Thanks in advance!

Here's what we've got right now on Auto-Playlists: http://musicbee.wikia.com/wiki/Playlists#Auto-Playlists

Any playlist you choose to sync should have every track synced.  If you only want parts of the playlists synced, you will probably have to create sub-playlists (set the source as a particular playlist, and use the rule "ticked is true") to get only the ticked files from a playlist.

I did a lot of tinkering on my own and started doing stuff on my own. I haven't been able to not sync the songs I don't want from certain playlists, but at least the bulk of my library is no longer trying to sync (I set up an autoplaylist that contains all songs rated higher than 3 stars which is exactly what I want, only 4 or 5 star songs on the phone as well as custom-selected unrated songs).

I'm gonna have a go at your sub-playlist suggestion tomorrow, though I might skip the ticks altogether since it seems like it's just an added step. For the playlists I want synced that have songs I don't want, a rule to prevent less than 4 star songs from syncing should be sufficient.

I have a different quick question though. How do I actually get the actual playlist to show up? (Using a Galaxy S6). Musicbee seems to be syncing all the songs on the phone but not the actual playlist. Am I missing a setting that I should have on/off? My other thought is maybe playlists aren't synced until all the songs are synced (I'm trying to sync about 90GB worth of down-converted songs amidst a freezing computer so it's going slow and I haven't synced everything yet).

Thanks yet again!

Yeah, the actual playlists are synced last.  90 gb will take a while!
