Title: How to get rid of music files containded in a folder removed form MusicBee?
Post by: Biff on May 21, 2015, 11:05:15 PM
I have removed a music folder (it is not shown anymore in MusicBee) but its music files are displayed though in MuciBee. Why is that? How can I delete the entries of the music files from the MB's library?

Once files are imported, you need to remove them directly - just selected and press delete.  Changing scanned or monitored folders doesn't remove them, it only keeps new files from being added.

Thank you psychoadept,

That explains why I wasn't able to manage it. Why is it like that? What is the advantage of having files in the library you have removed its music folder(s) from? So you move single music folders to another place (e.g. from "Music" to "Soundtracks" and you have the same files listed twice in MuicBee then, is that correct? Am I getting you completely wrong?

And how can I manually find all of these entries to be deleted?

The most of my music is stored on external drives, so if I change a drive letter or move music folders / files from a drive to another or to another folder on the same drive how could I usefully (comfortably / fast) find all of the entries in MusicBee to remove them?

Many thanks again

Add "path" or "url" to.the main panel and sort by that to quickly cluster files by location.

Thank you very much.

Done....but I assume - very sorry - I do not understand correctly: each time you (re)move folders you have to manually delete their old entries in MusicBee (so you actually do what a music organizer should do?) manually? That appears to be extremely circumstantially. So I guess, I am missing anything.

So, what is the best way to organize your music folders, suppose you find duplicates of albums, you move folders containing albums to other places, etc., what would be the best way to do it?

Thanks again.

I'm not clear if you are moving/removing the files & folders using a file explorer or from within MB.  If you do everything from within MB, you should not have to do follow-up manual moves.

<<<<I'm not clear if you are moving/removing the files & folders using a file explorer or from within MB.
Well, it would depend on. When I would move / copy (e.g. hundreds of GBs or 1, 2 TB or even 10 GB of) folders / files to another drive I would use a sync program (it will be faster than MusicBee and more save, more options regarding syncing, copying etc.) or something reliable. Some single folders / files I could move / copy with MBusicBee.

Where could I find such an option to copy / move folders.  There is such option - http://i.imgur.com/HAwfzKs.png - but it seeming to just move the files of a folder instead of the complete folder.

Why does a re-scan not remove the entries of none existing files?  So, what is the advantage of having files in the library you have removed its music folder(s) from?

Many thanks.

If you turn this option on:

MB will automatically find (and give you the option to remove) all the dead links you create by moving/removing files and folders outside of MB.

Thank you, Bee-liever,

Yes, that option I have already activated, but it does not help. I do not have any folder containing a music file in MusicBee, but MB keeps displaying all of the removed files.

How can one remove a music folder here: http://i.imgur.com/CUvIPst.png. I cannot find a remove button or something like that?
Respectively where can I remove a music folder?

There are shown 0 tracks in the library statistics: http://i.imgur.com/4YLoapX.png
But the "Inbox" shows: http://i.imgur.com/iqymv7I.png
It appears as if I missed anything. But what?

You will need to import those inbox files to your music library. Select all files in your inbox, right click, send to> Music library.

Why do you want to remove a folder from the "scan folders for new files" pane? If you want to import files from a different folder, click on "choose folders" button, and select another one.

Thank you, redwing.

<<<You will need to import those inbox files to your music library.
Strange, I would have thought, they already are in the library since "Inbox" appears to me like a sub item of "Library". I do not understand.
And I do not want all of these files to be added to MB, I want the files of music folders being added which are existing in that folder(s) and the ones being moved deleted in MB.

<<<<Why do you want to remove a folder from the "scan folders for new files" pane?
Because I want to remove all of the files being in the library / inbox or whereever they are.

<<<If you want to import files from a different folder, click on "choose folders" button, and select another one.
Actually I just want the music folders I have to be added to MB so that the existing files being in there are added to MB and I want that entires in MB of none existing / moved music files automatically are removed from MB. I have music folders with albums and I want to add these files of the albums / the albums to MB, so MB can automatically download covers, tag these files and much more. How could I do it? In foobar I just have to add the music folder(s) and scan, that is it. How could I do it with MB? Or: how should I start when I use MB the first time, how can I get the contend of my music folders to MB?

When I click that item: http://i.imgur.com/aQ8Ahlv.png this message is shown- http://i.imgur.com/vAXjC2O.png - and then this is shown in the status bar - http://i.imgur.com/aayxUSb.png
So, that means, these items are in the library, about 9.000. Or am I missing anything?

Many thanks again.

Click on Music Library node in the left navigator. How many files do you see in the main panel?

Very sorry, I do not know which one this could be, do not find it. Sorry again.

From your screenshot (http://i.imgur.com/iqymv7I.png), you can find "Music" node above inbox, right? That's Music Library node, and we call that area on the left sidebar "left navigator".

Sorry for that.

There is not shown any entry / file, if I see it right: http://i.imgur.com/59Dpx2i.png

OK, then there's no track in your library. Now you said you wanted to import not all files but some files in specific folders, right?
Then let's do that.
1. Click on inbox node, select all tracks and remove them (only from inbox, not from computer). Then you will have no files in your library & inbox.
2. Run "Scan folders for new files" command. Tick all folders that you want to import files from. Tick "add to library" option.
Then you will have the files in your music library that you wanted to import.

Hmmm, but why does MB show there are:

Is it correct, the same result I would get when I drag music folders and drop them over MB?

Done, now it looks: http://i.imgur.com/yQWIXeR.png

How could I let MB automatically remove entries of files being removed / not existing anymore? And when I do not want to have special (still existing) music folders be displayed in MB, how could I remove the entries of special music folders form MB?

Many thanks.

What do you mean by special music folders? Where do you see them?

On my hard disks, external / internal drives. So, just normal folders. Special folders, means certain folders, not all of my folders, may be a few folders of them, some of them, one of them, etc.

Just select files in the music library that you want to remove from the library, and remove them (not from computer). If you need to see each file's folder, then add "path" field to the main panel.

Yes, but I do not want to do it manually, so how could I let MB automatically remove entries of files being removed / not existing anymore?

Read this: http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=7974.msg78665#msg78665

What does that mean?

It rescans all files it knows.

I wouldn't recommend it because sometimes you will get unexpected results depending on your settings. For instance, drag & drop on the same drive could move folders instead of copy them.

I am not quite sure to understand:
<<<OK, then there's no track in your library.
But it shows there are. Why does MB do that, what is the reason to show it, if there are not any files in the library?

<<<<Remove Unmarked Dead Links in the Library
------------------------------------------------------
If you delete music files with MB closed, MB database could have discrepancies with your actual music files. In that case, MB won't correctly mark those non-existent tracks as dead links until you attempt to play or edit them. There are several ways to resolve this issue.

(1) Tick "on startup check for updated or missing files" option under Preferences> Library
(2) Add your music files folder to the monitored folders setting under Preferences> Library
(3) Run Tools> Advanced> Rescan All Files command to update database

Thank you for the link, yes, I had already activated those options, but had not get it to work, may be I am able to get it now: http://i.imgur.com/2QyOWs2.png

Alright, just use "Scan folders for new files".
So the folders are moved / copied instead of their files just will be added to MB (whereto, to what folder are they moved / copied?) ? That would be extremely adverse. I had understood dropping the folders / files will cause an entry of the files in MB. That is not right?
