Title: Old Sonique for MB
Post by: Bee-liever on April 28, 2015, 02:27:57 AM
Here are 55 old Sonique visual plugins I have collected, tested (on MB 2.4 and 2.5) and renamed for use in MB.

Includes:
and other old favourites

Just unzip into the "Plugins" sub-folder in your MusicBee installation folder.

Download available here (http://www.mediafire.com/download/jjqqdxrcns0mrtd/MBvisuals.zip)

I'm not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination (still working on the first chapter of C# for Dummies  ;) ) but I do have a copy of a Sonique visualiser plugin test file that is in a MS Visual Express project form.

If anyone wants to try writing a new visualiser for MB, just give a yell and I will post it to them.

Over 100 downloads  -  less then a month  -  no comments   ???

Guess that disproves the statistic that only approx 1.7% of internet users say "Thank You" for resources provided to them for free   :P

I guess my results are there to keep the statistical average below 2%   :D

actually i'm sad that most people don't want just to say thank you for your work. at least i'd know that my plugins worked correctly.

Thank you for providing those files from Sonique, but I cannot get them to work.

I was really excited to get Rabbit Hole, as that is the one that I have always liked the best, and have never been able to find a visual that I like anywhere near as well, but it doesn't work. Most of the Sonique visuals just do nothing in this program, but Rabbit Hole actually gives an error.

They show up in the program to be used, but they do not work. I have tried putting them in different folders, just in case, but the Plugins folder you said to put them in is the only one that makes them show up in the player.

If you know of something that I can do to make them work, I would appreciate you letting me know.

I do appreciate the effort you put into making them available. :)

What version of MB are you using?

I just downloaded.  Thanks for the fantastic visualizers.

They all seem to work just fine, although I have to "un-tic" Show Visualizer then change to a new one.
If I just select a new visualizer without un-ticing Show Visualizer then nothing happens or the plugin crashes.

I am using MB ver 2.5.5575

I just tried what blockhead had to do to make it work and that did not work for me.

@ Stang777

If they still don't work after updating to MB2.5, you may need to delete the vis.ini file from the plugins folder and re-start MB.

Post by: Stang777 on June 11, 2015, 05:00:41 AM
Thank you so very much, that worked. :)

Like Blockhead, I do have to uncheck the start vis option before changing them or the program crashes or there are errors, but as long as I do that, the ones I have tried work great.

I had to give up Sonique when I went to Windows 8 as it wouldn't work and I have missed it. No other program had visuals I liked but now, thanks to you, I finally have my Rabbit Hole back. Yay!

I appreciate you making the Sonique files available for this program and for helping me make them work, thank you again :)

Thanks for the Visualizers, sadly none of them, fits my needs. :'(
Most of them are to funky/flashy for me.
I am looking for a simple spectrum band visualizer (without funky turning things) and maybe some "slow" ambientlight in the background.

I don't know how much work it is, to grab for example the visualizer from Theatermode-default, enlarge it, mabye decrease the amount of bands, place it around the middle of the screen, and add some foggy ambientlight effekts. but if you can create something like this, it would be awesome.

greetings

It was interesting seeing some of the old Sonique visuals in place again. Thanks for that.  :)
I had never seen Rabbit Hole before, so that was interesting to watch.
My favourite, Spec'n'Hopp wasn't there though  :(
I have the svc for Sonique in my archives, so I did try and put it in, but Music Bee rejected it.

Your conversion process must be more than just following naming standards.

Your conversion process must be more than just following naming standards.

Not really.
It's basically adding the "vis_" prefix and changing the extension from .svp to .dll

Sometimes you also need to edit the vis.ini settings for a particular visualizer.

I've tried several different combinations in an effort to get Spec'n'Hopp to work, but with no luck.
I think it has to do with the 'Spec_n_Hopp.bmp' file needing to be referenced by the .dll.

So you had no luck with it either. That's a shame.
My installation does not have this viz.ini file that you refer to, or will MusicBee pick it up if it is there?

Oh well, I may try again sometime. If it does work, I'll add an entry in this thread.
Thanks for letting me know.

My installation does not have this viz.ini file that you refer to...

Running any of the visualizers that need one, will create the file in MB.

Awesome stuff, thanks OP!!  ;D

Also just a note the files must be copied into the Plugins folder but not inside another folder, that had me stumped for a while.

Also getting the "have to "un-tic" Show Visualizer then change to a new one.
If I just select a new visualizer without un-ticing Show Visualizer then nothing happens"

Is there anyway around that?

Hey, thanks for those :D
I'm looking for some simple, but nice and modern looking visualisers, preferably just spectrum or oscilloscope.

Pic related, it's from foobar2000.
This pack includes a couple nice, but they arent that smooth and nice looking.
If somebody knows about some simple, fluid and MB compatible visualisers, please LET ME KNOW.

Anyway thanks for the pack, some of them are really nice.

I can post you a link if you want it.

Also, although it's not a visualiser, you can install the Voxengo DSP plugin into MB. It's got a really good spectrum analyzer and VU meters.

MB doesn't seem to be supported as widely as other players do. So i'm happy I found some cool looking ones in your selection :)

Using "Peak Freq" often.

Wowowowow...I must be getting old because it feels like another age of the world that I was using Sonique to play MP3s. In fact, if memory serves I was still a teenager and got most of my music from IRC, and was still using it through the Napster and WinMX eras, a period in time during which the depth and breadth of music files available via P2P still boggles my mind. What a trip down memory lane, and I'm starting to understand why old people always say things were better back in their day: it actually was.

Bee-liever, I can't begin to express my gratitude to you for the effort you went to in bringing this to us. Are there any better gifts than someone returning to you something you'd forgotten you'd even lost? I think not, and though I'm not religious, I have to believe that if there's a hereafter that you'll get an upgraded cloud for sharing this. Cheers.

...now all I need is to find some pot and some booze in a plastic bottle and my regression to freshman year of college will be complete!

I just wanted to say thank you so much for these visualizations. I am a new-bee  ;) and no matter what i did, i couldn't get milkdrop to work.

This was the first download anywhere that i could get to work so I very much appreciate it.

As for the lack of thanks, pretty sure people just didn't want to jump through the most ridiculous, razor wire wrapped douchery that was the registering to post my thanks. Google doesn't even use captchas that awful. Playing Memory with 3 sets of let's match horribly low quality images that were put in a blender first. And then answer a question too, but at least that was the easy part. I had to go through the horrible process twice because the first time didn't go through...so let me tell you, when I say thank you, you should definitely know that I mean it.

So..thanks. Seriously though, i was contemplating WMP again *shudder* Now I'm all in for MusicBee!

Wow!
I was a member before the new website came along so I didn't realize the 'new' registering process was so arduous.

I really do appreciate every 'thank you' that I get but in light of that info, I really, really do appreciate the time and effort taken too put a little post on here.

I really do live under a rock!
I LOVE visualisers and have used "Tabby's" viz on J River media player, and of course Milkdrop to date,
only just noticed this post, didnt realise others were available for MB - downloading now!
Excited to see what Rabbit Hole looks like on big screen TV  ;)

Seems to be a sign of modern times that thanks not always forthcoming, but if things not functioning as expected, will more likely get a response, but a BIG THANK YOU from myself to Steven, all the add-on creators, Theatre Mode makers, forum expert assistants and Wiki editors that have made MB what it is today - totally awesome!

If I've missed anyone out - thank you too!

Best regards: Freddy

if you added visualizers by 'add' button (i.e. not manually), then they are installed into some subfolder of 'c:\users\username\appdata\local\musicbee\' or 'c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\musicbee\'.

I unzipped the folder and then copied it to the MB Plugins Folder, and Music Bee isn't showing them under View>Visualizaers.

Using current version of MB.

The files (dll's) and sub-folders in 'MBvisuals' and MilkDropVisualiser' need to be placed directly in the Plugins folder, not in their own folders.
Refer to the readme.txt file.

Thanks for the reply.

Great, so the Sonic works now but the milk drop still doesn't. For Milkdrop, I put the milkdrop dll in the root and the two directories called

MBVisuals
Microsoft.VC90.CRT

in the root also.

Still got the error.

So I copied the folders out of the MBVidsuals folder and the files out of the Microsoft folder and put them in the root plugins folder. Now I am getting the error  "Unable to read the data file C:\Program Files (x86)\MusicBee\Plugins\data\include.fx

Great, so the Sonic works now but the milk drop still doesn't. For Milkdrop, I put the milkdrop dll in the root and the two directories called

MBVisuals
Microsoft.VC90.CRT

in the root also.

The folder 'MBvisuals' contained the dll's for the Sonique visualisers.  That folder should be deleted.

For Milkdrop you should have in the root Plugins folder:
\program files\musicbee\plugins\vis_milk2.dll
\program files\musicbee\plugins\Milkdrop2\...
\program files\musicbee\plugins\Microsoft.VC90.CRT\...

I'm using a 6 year old laptop with Windows 10, all updated, with the integrated Intel 4000 graphics chip, also updated driver.

This means that it's probably only ever had DirectX12 installed.
DirectX12 is not fully compatible with MilkDrop2.2 'out of the box'.

Search for 'turn on directplay windows 10' and follow the instructions.

Thanks again.

Milkdrop: OK, I did all that, and now I get the message: MILKDROP ERROR Error Compiling ps_2_0 warp shader.

Sonique: They are working. However, I have to close the visualizer window before changing Sonique visualizers or the visualizer window just freezes. They all work though.

I might also add that all of the visualizer entries in MB are doubled.

Thanks again.

Here is a screen shot of the plugin directory now.

For the double entires, I can only think that you have a duplicate Plugins folder.
Are you using (or have used) the Store version?
