Title: Removal of permanent volume adjustment
Post by: Steven on December 22, 2014, 08:41:13 PM
For the record i am going to remove the permanent volume adjustment option in the volume adjustor tool. The reason being that no matter how clear its made or what warnings are done there will always be people who go ahead and use it without understanding what they are doing.
The view i have is that this option would only be needed in rare cases in which case you can use MP3gain or AACGain to do that.
The equivalent function is still available when synching to devices.

Welcome to the forum!

As Steven says, the function is still available for syncing.  If you make sure you're on the latest update (http://musicbee.wikia.com/wiki/Latest_Update), then you can set up a virtual device in your device preferences and sync the files, then overwrite the old ones.  A little more complicated, yes, but that's the point.  A lot of people have used this function without understanding it first.

Hello....Thanks for reply. I know how sync it, but that makes it al so complicated. Just the old function was great, but I have to deal with it.
Greetings

Sorry, I can't check right now to be sure, but I think you could use the replaygain.exe command line program to do this.
In MusicBee you could set it up as an external program and send your tracks to it for analysis.

If it doesn't already come with MusicBee it should be easy to find it or an equivalent to download.

Hello,

Already try that, only you can add just 1 song. Not possible to collect more titles.
I wish there was a way the put the old function back....like puting a file back in the program. And for people who don't know exacly how it works....don't touch it ;D

Looks like mp3gain doesn't do permanent volume change anyway. It only writes tags.
:(

Actually, scratch that. I see what it's doing.
The tags are to allow the volume change to be undone.

That is the problem. With no way of sending all tracks to mp3gain at once it can't do album gain.
Easy solution would be to request the support for a <URLS> parameter which passes all selected files to an external program at the same time.

Hello...

Maybe a silly idea.....is it not possible to put an older file from a older version back in the new version. (mean copy a older file) ???

Thanks

If you mean Is there a way to use the newer versions of MusicBee but keep the permanent volume analysis feature?, then no.
All of the main functionality is built into the MusicBee.exe file, which is what needs to be replaced in order to keep up to date.

I've requested a URLS parameter, which if implemented, would allow the mp3gain.exe command line program to be used for volume adjustment of albums:

-edit-
Just found out this already exists.

So you could use mp3gain as an external tool with parameters like /a /s r "<URLS>" to do volume adjustment with album gain.

-edit-
This could also be assigned a keyboard shortcut to avoid digging through context sub-menus.

Just for the record, I really, really miss this function. I use MusicBee on my main desktop computer but I use Google Play Music on everything else (tablets, phone, chromebook and chromebox). Google Play Music still does not handle ReplayGain tags so I like to make all new music the same volume using "permanent volume adjustment" before it gets uploaded to Google Play Music. Now, instead of just clicking an option in MusicBee, I have to open each file in another program just to normalize the volumes.
