I know there haven't been many request for this but imo this would make browsing in artwork view much more pleasing. So i'm bumping this request to see if it can get more support.

+1, good suggestion.

I'm not sure how much effort this would take to implement, but it would certainly be a welcome addition.

If so, then please optionally.

Now when scrolling you get the art, and the text fields below it always at the the same position. I find that quite convenient to 'read' myself.

In the implementation i had in mind it would still scroll the same distance as it does now. So one tick of the mouse wheel would still scroll one row of album art but with a slide animation so that it would fell more fluid.
And i have nothing against this being optional.

Slightly off-topic, but in the same scope:
There has been a wish a while back that I want to support, where there was a suggestion when in Album & Tracks view,  to keep the album art on the top left when scrolling through that album's tracks.
I can't find the topic, can somebody else (direct me to it)?

Yes. PLEASE make it optional if included. I know a lot of people like smooth scrolling, but it really messes with me. I turn it off on everything, browsers included. :P

Why the developer isn't even answering...?! This request has a considerable number of +1's!

If the developer will ever implement this, I hope he will make it optional. Smooth scrolling sucks most of the time (it slows down the scrolling).

Steven rarely answers to wishes at all. he either implements wish or doesn't.

i have done this for v3.1 - it will be optional.
for anyone that cares about this feature, its not currently done for mouse wheel actions as i felt it slowed things down too much ie. its only implemented for when you drag the scrollbar slider. However i would be interested to know whether you think the current scroll behaviour for mouse wheel scrolling is an issue anyway? For myself i much prefer the fast scrolling with the wheel action and to me it doesnt look jerky using that method

In my opinion, most people who prefer smooth scrolling would rather have it on when using the mouse wheel, this is the way it behaves in web browsers with the feature (such as Safari).

i've now done it for mouse wheel as well and its no longer slow

This is wonderful! Thank you for your great work, Steven!
When will v3.1 be downloadable?

Thanks,

Post by: Steven on September 06, 2016, 07:40:41 PM
as mentioned, this has already been implemented in v3.1
In my own testing i felt part of the issue at least for Album & Tracks layout was when you have very large artwork eg. 1000 x 1000px then MB takes a small but noticable time to scale the picture - it doesnt slow the actual scrolling but does make scrolling visually appear jerky.
So if peoples complaints are mostly with the Album & Tracks layout where you have very large artwork then i can easily port that part of the solution to v3.0.
In v3.1, it will also have a scroll smoother which i wont port to v3.0

Nice, interesting how a detail like this can visibly improve the user experience. :)
I wasn't too optimistic after experiencing choppy 'smooth' scrolling in certain web browsers/file managers, but no issues here scrolling through 30,000 files. Good job!

Is smooth scrolling enabled by default now and is there an option for that in preferences? Where can one find this option?

(Sorry, I have been out of the loop with MusicBee development the past few years. That's mostly due to the fact that, as strange as it will sound, I barely have the time or the desire for serious music listening sessions nowadays.  :(  )

Sorry for the bump but I am wondering if there is a way to slow down the scroll speed in the main panel when it set to album cover view.

This added feature of smooth scrolling has made made my music browsing experience much better. However, when using my laptops track pad to scroll (using two fingers on the trackpad) the album cover view scrolls EXTREMELY too fast. This problem occurred in the musicbee version 3.0.6132 as well.

Could a feature be added that slows down scroll speed for laptop trackpads?

I have already tried going into control panel settings in windows and changing the "choose how many lines to scroll" option to 1 but there is not much of a difference if any at all.

Any help is appreciated!

Using a mouse with album covers view is fine, but I find that in tracks view smooth scrolling is too sensitive. With a single motion of the mouse wheel, album covers tend to skip forward/back by one row at a time - in tracks view it tends to skip half a dozen rows at a time.

I'm also looking for this option. I searched for quite some time and never found it.

How do you turn smooth scrolling off?
Title: Re: Smooth scrolling

there isnt a way and wont be a way ie. you will need to stick with v3.0

Currently rolling the mouse wheel one notch scrolls one row in artwork view and six rows in list views (the default 3 rows per 1 notch mouse scroll setting, so it will be 2 rows if you set 1 row per 1 notch). I'm very content with the current scrolling speed.

But the problem is when you want to fine-tune the scrolling to stop at the specific row.
How about supporting slow scroll with a hotkey? So if I scroll while holding down control key, it always scrolls 1 row per 1 notch in list view (and 1/6 row per 1 notch in artwork view) regardless of the user's configured mouse scroll setting.

i think that should be OK as a "hidden" feature. MB would just handle the alt key being pressed as thats already some sort of standard:

So with alt key pressed, it now takes 6 notches to scroll one row in artwork view, which means 1/6 of the normal scroll speed. But it scrolls 3 rows per notch in list view, just the half of the normal speed. Can't you make it scroll one row per notch in list view?

Now it scrolls, with alt key pressed, 2 rows per notch in list views with the Windows default 3 rows per notch setting. Thanks!
I'll add this feature to the hidden features thread.
