Obviously I got this idea from Songbird, but I thought it is pretty useful. I like that you can narrow the results to artists in your library only.
The Songbird plugin gets the data from MusicBrainz.

I agree this would be awesome. When I switched from Songbird this was one of the few things I knew I was going to miss.
-
i did some research into how this can be done and looks straight-forward. Most of the time would be building a decent UI for it. So i might do a quick and crude interface to start with then at a later date do something nicer
-
This is a good idea. Some suggestions for the first GUI.
- Call it "Upcoming Releases"
- Base it on the current MusicBee "Album and Tracks" view and the list on the right hand of this page http://criticulture.com/upcoming_music_releases/
- Some verbage at the top to explain what the info is and where it comes from.

Like this?

pretty much so, although i might have a Services node like songbird as i can imagine other things in the future.
Any bright ideas for an icon for this?
-
I'd probably use a "date" icon like this one here.

Have added to the mockup above (couldn't be bothered to mock up a services node)
-
thanks - i will use that. The services node would just have an arrow like Playlists
-
anyone interested here is a test version - its accessed through a new Services node i have added to the Web section on the left navigator

At a future date i might also add in some background checking against amazon albums
-
nice, that was quick!
-
one suggestion : exclude "various artists" when selecting "restrict to artists in library"

Wow. That was quick! Looks good. Little unsure about Services being second level under web tho. First, services and web browsing are different things and second it add complexity. Would prefer it to have it's own node.
-
i know your right but for the near term there is only one service. I might rename the "Web" node to "Internet"

How about "External Services"
Also i was thinking that it might be usefull to allow the user to filter this list somehow (e.g. by most played or more than three stars?). I see a lot of stuff in mine that is of no interest.
-
Looks and works good, but would it be possible to filter Various Artists anyhow? I mean, my results are full of totally unrelated albums... But great feature anyhow.
BTW you can check if Lastf.fm API doesn't have an access to theirs New Album service. The more sources, the better, right? Or you can check this service http://www.soundamus.net/ which works the best for me.
One more thing - at least for me it would make more sense to sort if from the newest ones to the oldest ones (for instance have July releases at the top and June releases at the bottom).
-
Oh. I do like http://www.soundamus.net/ :D
-
Wow. That looks fantastic. What service is it actually using? MusicBrainz? Last.FM? Or Soundamus?
-
just musicbrainz for now, but i will add soundamus
-
Gigulate looks good too http://gigulate.com/gigs/
-
i've added soundamus - you need to enable and enter your soundamus id in the Internet & Services preferences tab.
For matches from soundamus, clicking on the album will take you to the soundamus web page.
It also allows you to sort date into descending/ascending order and i've removed "various artists" when restricting to artists in your library

thats for concerts right? I've applied for an API key so lets see if they allow MusicBee
-
How do you apply for a Soundamus account? I only tried my Last.fm name
-
there is a Create Account button in the preferences page which takes you to the appropriate soundamus page. If you already did that step earlier, just enter your last.fm id in the id box in the preferences
-
That takes me to the home page. Cant see any create account button...where is it?
-
you need to go through the steps on their web-page. It starts by requiring you to enter artists - i your case i expect you would click the last.fm icon. then it asks you to create an account
-
seems i'm blind.. can't find it either..
-
their account creation process is not the best.
- either go directly to thei website: http://www.soundamus.net/
- or click the Create Account button in MB in the Internet & Services preferences page which will take you to the same page
- it asks you to enter some artists first, by clicking a link 'enter your favourite artists' or click the last.fm icon if you use last.fm
- after entering the artists it will ask you to create an account
using the account id you created, enter that username into the id text box in the MusicBee preferences page
if you cant figure it out its probably best you approach the soundamus fourm which has a link on the bottom of their page
-
i've tweaked the Upcoming Releases layout in the Internet & Services preferences. No need to download again if you have the link just above

-
Some things i noticed:
The "services" node and "upcoming releases" in the left sidebar can be renamed by F2 - i don't think this is supposed to be possible
there is a "refresh" button on the page. why not use the refresh button that's on the adress bar (which doesn't do anything on the releases page)
non western characters are shown as boxes on my system
