Title: Shuffling by Genre
Post by: Brossa8 on April 21, 2014, 02:34:20 PM
Hi,

I recently started using Musicbee. I love the player, but:

My library (50.000+ tracks) contains a big "album" that is a collection several hundreds of tracks with various genres.
When I shuffle play by genre, along with the other tracks of that particular genre, all tracks of this "album" will be included in the playlist , not just the tracks of the genre that I selected.
I assume that's because the album holds tracks of the selected genre and Musicbee then includes the whole album in the playlist.

Is there a way to avoid this?
(shuffleplay settings: Totally Random; playing genre by right clicking the genre and choosing Play Now; shuffle activated in taskbar.)

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

In Preferences > Now Playing, is "group by album" selected under Shuffle Settings?

I assume you are right clicking on Genre in Library Explorer?  If you click the Configure Columns menu  (the one marked with little squares in the top right hand corner of the main panel), is "Always Show the Entire Album" selected?

Thanks scampbll.

"Group by album" is not selected.
Yes, I right click on genre in library explorer.
I don't see the option "Always Show the Entire Album" in the configure column menu. The menu starts with "Tabs bar" (which is greyed out) and ends with "Playing Tranck Panel" I don't see it in the sub menus either.

I don't see the option "Always Show the Entire Album" in the configure column menu. The menu starts with "Tabs bar" (which is greyed out) and ends with "Playing Tranck Panel" I don't see it in the sub menus either.

That's the Configure Layout menu.  There's another menu (which also says "Configure Layout" when you mouse over it - something I hope can be changed eventually) where you select columns to show in the main panel.  It's down a row and to the far right of the Layout menu, right under the end of the search box.

I found the nine squares "Configure Layout." It's on the bar that also says "Albums by Title." I click it and there's no "Always Show the Entire Album." There's "Show Header Bar," "Group By," "Sort By" and "Customize Panel Settings." There's no "Always Show the Entire Album" in any of the submenus either.
I'm starting to doubt if I have the latest version. It's 2.3.5188. Is this the latest?

How important is this "Always Show the Entire Album." option? And should "Group by Album" be selected in the shuffle settings?

I'm going back to Winamp.
Winamp works better. Ciao!
