Title: Coming from iTunes, a bit lost
Post by: greycobalt on April 05, 2014, 09:41:29 AM
I've been managing my music library in iTunes for as long as I can remember, and I don't even know why anymore. I think it was because I had an iPod like 10 years ago? Anyway, I up and lost my playlists and database info, so I decided to find an alternative. Everything pointed to MB.

I imported my iTunes library into MB, however, I'm having some difficulty. My iTunes library is a mix of iTunes, Amazon, Google, and CD rips. I painstakingly go through every file when I put it into iTunes to make sure that it's information is correct, and that it's listed properly. When it finished importing into MB, it looks as if none of the information I entered for the songs on iTunes was kept on the actual MP3s. I'm very clueless when it comes to tagging with MP3s, but I tried changing everything I had into ID3 v2.4, re-imported into MB, and they still weren't properly formatted.

Is there a way to make them appear in MB the way they're showing up in iTunes for me? I have thousands of songs, and going through them all to edit again just isn't something I'm willing to do, especially considering I have custom compilation songs (songs I've combined or edited myself) that are completely filled out on iTunes as well.

I apologize if it's a very obvious or dumb question, but I've tried looking for the answer the past couple of hours and I can't seem to find anything noteworthy. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

What fields and what kind of differences in format? Without knowing how they look in iTunes and MB, no one could offer any meaningful advice. The more info you provide with screenshots, the more helpful responses you could get.

I think this is an iTunes problem.  Maybe this will help: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20435979#20435979

Thanks! That's what I originally tried, but it did inform me that my .m4a files won't have any tag info stored on them. ;)

Sorry guys, I was away for the weekend and wasn't able to keep up with this. I did get the majority of my songs properly tagged through Picard and converting all the .m4a to .mp3. There's still a few that aren't tagged, but it's a small enough number that I can keep up with it myself.

As for the rest of my questions, how does it work via Android? Before, I used DoubleTwist to sync my iTunes library to my phone, but without an actual app, I'm not sure of the procedure.

Beyond that, will MB keep your music organized like iTunes did? Like, when I add a song, will it create an Artist/Album folder for it? Thanks again for the help.

Glad you got it mostly worked out.  :)
