Title: How to stream my music in real time via an http link?
Post by: musicfox87 on March 31, 2014, 12:34:55 AM
So MusicBee is the perfect player for me already, I got no complaints. Just one thing I'm wondering is that sometimes
I want to share what I'm listening to with my friends. I don't just want them to see what I'm listening to, I actually want
them to hear in sync as I'm playing my music. That is, a music stream link or something that can be accessed just so
that people can listen to exactly what I'm listening to in real time. Is this possible? I know you can create internet radio
stations but that just shuffles a music playlist, it's not actually a link to what I'm listening to in real time.

I know I already have the plugin that allows me to share what I'm listening to on skype. What if somebody I'm talking to
on skype now wants to listen to what I'm listening to while video chat is open. Will the audio share? I think not since it's
based on microphone.

You could use subsonic and let them have access to that and they can play whatever track you are listening to. I don't know how you could do exactly what you are after though

Google is your friend? There might be a third-party software or something that can allow you to do this. Search terms might include "real-time music stream" or something like that? Sorry I can't be more help.

Google is not just my friend, but my best friend. I've tried searching already. I'm not really interested in 3rd party software because I want to keep MusicBee as my primary music player. If there's a plugin for MusicBee that listens in the background and streams it to a link, then that would be ideal. Subsonic seems intriguing. I've downloaded, but haven't had the chance to play around with it.

Update: I downloaded the subsonic plugin for MusicBee: http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=3620.0
Subsonic client download link: http://www.subsonic.org/pages/download.jsp

Subsonic is basically a cloud storage for music. All my music is stored locally on my host computer. That computer runs the subsonic server. This allows me to access the music anywhere from any device - cellphone or notebook. So now I can listen to my music on the go or access it on a friend's computer who has MB installed with this plugin. That is, as long as you can download the subsonic app on android or ios, you can access your music from a remote server.

However, I still can't do what I was asking, which is running MB on the host computer continuously and generating a streaming link that anyone who accesses this link listens to exactly what I'm listening to on my host computer in real-time. I'm not interested in just accessing my storage of music on a device, I want to be able to stream music that is playing from one device to another. That is, if I open a link on my phone, the phone would start playing what my computer is already playing.
