Title: Norton Antivirus
Post by: PaulRJ on March 07, 2024, 03:24:05 PM
Hi
Anybody having problems with Norton Antivirus?
7/3/24 pop up from Norton AV - corrupted with Matelog??.exe (PC froze before I could write it down, now cannot get MB to play (MB is whitelisted).
Solved access to MB eventually.
Opened MB, tried to play known track and screen shows message; "An unexpected error occurred: The type initializer for '#=zKuQ2ALWVtD$$uyx6g==' threw an exception.
Sorry no screenshot, don't have programs only .jpg. (ALT+PrtScn)
Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem. Norton prevented MusicBee from working by quarantining bass.dll and would not let me re-install MusicBee. I contacted Norton and a technician tried unsuccessfully to fix the problem. He managed to get MusicBee to load but whenever I try to play a track I get the "'#=zKuQ2ALWVtD$$uyx6g==' threw an exception". that you reported. The technician escalated the issue to the senior team who I hope will get back to me. I would suggest that anyone else who has the problem contacts Norton so that they understand that it is a common issue.

Update: The Norton agent fixed the problem for me but completely removing MusicBee and re-installing.  It now works fine.

Hi
Update. Carried out the Norton changes suggested - no joy. Uninstalled MB and downloaded MB 3.5 - no joy. Removed all traces of MB from PC. Created own Folder to download to, went to permissions and restated full control of folder. Restarted PC Downloaded again and installed into custom folder - bingo!!!!
Only question - Why all this ????
Thanks for all replies.

Only question - Why all this ????
Answer is obvious enough:  A bad Norton Antivirus update throwing false alerts at Bass library files, which have been around for decades and in use by many other audio players, whose users, if also using Norton, have been going through exactly the same experience.

I was able to resolve the Norton bass*.dll quarantine very easily by following Norton's instructions at https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v6200305
Choose "Restore an item from quarantine"
Hope this helps!
