Danke, karböck!

The skin has just now been updated, correcting some minor oversights.

Great look!
I can only imagine the hours that went into creating that player panel.

@Mayibongwe, second what you said. @hiccup, really great skin, one of the best of your skins!

Thanks guys! You are too kind.

I would like your opinions on the following:
I feel that the skin is a little bit 'flat', so I am considering adding some subtle 3D effect.
Like this:

What do you think?

I hadn't noticed the addition until I did a side-by-side comparison of the new screenshot and the first.
I'm torn between the two, but if my life depended on it, I'd choose the first.
The rest of the panels have faint lines - so it sorta blends in well. (and you've got the slim window borders).

me too  ;D

@hiccup, I think the 3D effect on your screenshot looks better than the current skin (though maybe it needs further elaboration), but personally i don't like very popular nowadays "rounded corners" (ok, slightly rounded corners may be suitable in some places).

Although I'm not fond of fully flat themes in general, "Nocturne" without 3D is already excellent, easy on the eye, and coherent.
I have a slight preference for the second version, but as already stated, the change is not blatant.

So all votes are in ;-) Thnx.

I will probably add such a 3D effect, but maybe in an even more subtle way.
It's similar to audio effects: you shouldn't really be aware of them, but when you leave them out, you are fully aware something is missing...

@Steven, if you read this topic, maybe you reconsider the list of skins included in MB installation for 3.6? several great skins (including this one) have been created recently.

@hiccup, this skin is not very dark or very light, it's colorful. maybe it's worth to create several color variations of it?

p.s. i don't say that the current color scheme is bad  8)

I would take requests from you, if you would give examples of skin colours that you would like.
If it was up to me, I would probably do green (like Void Green (https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=34140.msg186686#msg186686)) and darker gray (like Elemental (https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=26932.msg151571#msg151571))

I'm not much into light skins these days, but a light version might work for this one too. Not sure.
Perhaps something light grey like Racing Green (https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=30400.msg168667#msg168667)

Updated, the 'flatness' of the player bar has been reduced by adding some 'depth'.

"Elemental" & "Racing Green" color schemes look good for me. "Void" series is too contrasting, maybe something similar, but more dimmed?

Would you want words such as 'shuffle' and 'repeat' to be in the Russian language?
Title: Re: Nocturne
Post by: boroda on January 29, 2024, 02:04:16 AM
it would be great, but don't think that the most russian MB users care about such things very much.

@hiccup, just in case if you decided to create 'localized' versions of this skin (though i don't think it's important), here are translations to russian:

'shuffle': 'перемешивать'
'repeat': 'повторять'

I didn't intend to create localised version of these skins.
It was just a proposal to you that if you are going to actually use one of these Nocturne skins, I could create a localised version of it for you.
But the texts may become a challenge considering the limited space.
There would also have to be 'shuffle on', 'repeat one' etc.
Not sure if that would turn out nice.

I just took the screenshot of the (brown) Nocturne skin and used Photoshop to turn it into greyscale to see what a grey version would look like.

I'm not sure about it, perhaps a little bit boring?:

A green version should turn out nice though, so I will create one using a darker 'classic' green.

yes, it's really boring. but i didn't mean completely grayscale version, and referenced 'Elemental' skin is not completely grayscale too. interesting how it would look if you add colors to some elements and maybe some subtle saturation to entire skin.

p.s. presonally i very like some variations of these 2 colors:

saturated orange

and not too saturated blue

EDIT:

also, 'orange' and 'not saturated blue' usually look great in combination with black and white (or very dark and very light) colors respectively. 2 examples (but they are only examples):

At the moment I can't think of a nice way to add some colouring accents (e.g. orange) to this grey version of the Nocturne player bar.
Maybe I'll come up with some ideas later, but else I probably won't create a dark-grey version.
(green and light is coming along nicely)

edit:
And I had forgotten to mention that Nocturne was updated a week ago or so with fixes for some small oversights.

No, but you're close: If you play Götterdämmerung by Wagner at full volume, and click the Clef symbol 10 times in a row, you can play Doom in the title bar.

B.t.w., the p and the f are intended to give a subtle clue about the volume slider's location.
(piano and forte)
Perhaps it should be ppp and fff, but that got a bit too busy.
