Title: Help with Virtual Tags!
Post by: dennis800121 on February 20, 2017, 01:00:29 PM
Hello!

I feel like a total newbie. Ive googled and searched her but i dont get it right!  :'(

I use Musicbrainz Picard to tag my music. Picard adds original year to every song. I would like to make that into a column. What i understand is that i should use the virtual tag for this!?

I check one mp3 for the tag and find this:

and then i go into Edit>Preferences>Tags1
...and enter "Define new tags"

Where and what exactly should i do after thi to make this visible in the library?
Can someone please help me!

Actually, it's way easier than that, now! If you update to the latest 3.1 patch, original year is now an included tag on the second page in the tag editor.

For future reference, though, virtual tags only work with tags already configured in MusicBee.  What you want is a custom tag, and you only need to define those if they are txxx/ style tags.  If you go back to the main preferences window, you can find a list of possible custom tags already configured for you, in the boxes where it says "save to MusicBee database only". Changing that box to any of the included tags will cause your files to be rescanned for that tag, and new values to be saved in the file.
