Hi,
is it possible to display BitPerSample info (aka Bit Dept) as a column om the "main screen', not just in the now playing pane.
With the current evolution in HD (or HiRes) music this becoming important (think MQA). This is possible in FooBar, but is fiddly. Is there any (preferably simple) way in MB?
I tried via custom and virtual tags, but could not get it to work (event though the field <bitspersample> does exist in the files, as can be demonstrated through FooBar).

Can you post a screenshot of your custom tag configuration (including the "define new tags" screen)? If the tag is in the file, it should be possible to configure it.

With apologies for the delay...
Here is the requested screenshot (completed with the FooBar solution, just to convince myself of no typos, and that the info indeed resides in the file):

Thanks and kind regards,

Hmm. It certainly looks like everything is configured correctly (the virtual tag shouldn't be necessary). MB should have rescanned your whole library when you set up the custom tag, but what happens if you use Send To > File Rescan on some of those files?

Unless foobar is retrieving and saving this info as to the file as a file tag (which i doubt) then custom tags wont work - the value is a property of the sound data.
In terms of musicbee's implementation, bits per sample is only retrieved and displayed for the current playing file. Its not something that is captured in the musicbee database when files are initially scanned (it could be but its a substantial change that would need to go on the wishlist)

I'm not a FooBar specialist (nore a fan, now that I have seen MB).
The thing is that, in the above screenshots, both applications were referencing the same music files. I do not know how, but FooBar is apparently able to get the info out of the FLAC and MP3 files without playing then (as far as I can see as a end user), with the help of its $info function (and indeed not by referring to a tag).
How do I go about putting this on the wishlist?
Kind regards,
Jan
