Title: Web Browser/ Mp3 Blog file scanner
Post by: Steven on July 15, 2014, 10:01:40 PM
This plugin provides a web browser that analyses web pages/ mp3 blogs for mp3 files and lists the files in a grid for you to play or download. You can bookmark and select your favourite web sites.

for MusicBee 3.0+users:
https://getmusicbee.com/download/plugins/mb_WebBrowser.zip
unzip and place mb_WebBrowser.dll in the MusicBee\Plugins folder

This is very nice, Steven.
Please consider adding
a) user-selectable path for downloaded files; and
b) toggle to place or not place downloaded file in the INBOX

Either way, a nice plug-in that works well on the two tests I tried.

Thanks.

I think I'm missing something blindingly obvious, and will shortly be very embarrassed, but I can't figure out how to work the plugin.  It shows up in plugins, I'm running the correct version of MB, but I can't figure out what to do.

it adds 'Web Browser' under Services

Post by: psychoadept on July 16, 2014, 04:10:49 AM
Ah, got it now.  For some reason, I had to activate Services AND restart MB before it showed up (had already restarted MB a few times, but not while Services was active).  Working great now!

Running comments:

*I can't paste a URL into the browser with Ctrl+V, for some reason (but I can right click and paste)

*Would like to be able to make the MP3 list at the bottom bigger.

*Would like to be able to scroll with the mouse wheel

*MB's forward/back buttons don't always work correctly when trying to return to the browser from another node

*The browser forgets its history if you accidentally move to another node.  It also reloads the page every time you leave and return, when it seems like it could be cached.

both links (plugin and musicbee.exe) have been updated - see the first topic

- textbox should now respond to the same keys as in the musicbee application
- you can now choose the destination for downloaded files
- a couple of navigation bugs fixed

Hello
Maybe a small bug here: I had the Web Browser plugin activated and visible in the Services branch AND the Computer node visible on the left bar. Then I removed the Computer node via the Preferences... and the Web Browser node under Services disappeared as well!
Thanks

Have you restarted MB since doing that?   Just wondering if they're connected because I found I had to restart MB before the Web Browser appeared.

Hi
The Web Browser node appears again after restarting, but disappears again if you show then hide the Computer node (which should hardly happen).
It's a minor bug, I agree :)

What about web-pages with .m4a streaming audio? Today MB can play these links, but when I'd been pausing playback for a while and then I'm pushing "Resume" MB will have downloaded all file again and started playback from 0:00. At the same time, there is no problem with .mp3 streaming pages. Also, .m4a streams can be founded at Mixcloud (if you use some special extension for Chrome).

Could you address the following "focus" issues I noticed when using YouTube site?

- I could type letter keys that are assigned to hokey (one-letter hotkey) freely in web address bar. But I can't use them in the search box of YouTube site.
- If you start typing something in the search box of YouTube site, it shows suggestions list. But none of them are clickable.

the latest v2.4 patch version has been updated to handle keyboard input from the web browser plugin.
I cant help with the youtube list selection problem but i do find using arrow keys works
The browser plugin itself has been updated with some internal changes that allow other plugins to read the current url

Thanks for the update! Now I can use keys assigned to single-letter hotkeys.

- Not sure what action (probably some mouse movement) prompts this, but often current URL of the browser changes to "about: blank", which keeps other plugins from reading the current URL.
- Start playing a YouTube video, then close down the web browser tab. The music keeps playing and no way to stop it other than exit.
- Mouse scroll wheel is not supported on YouTube page to scroll up and down on the page. Have to use scroll bar.

Can you reproduce the first one? Could it be caused by some old files in my MB folder like something related to the old firefox browser?
Title: Re: Web Browser/ Mp3 Blog file scanner
Post by: Steven on August 10, 2014, 11:18:49 AM
i was able to reproduce the about:blank once but dont know how, and then i made some changes and wasnt able to reproduce
So redownload the plugin which might fix the about:blank and also musicbee itself which fixes the close tab issue
Title: Re: Web Browser/ Mp3 Blog file scanner
Post by: redwing on August 10, 2014, 11:32:56 AM
It's still there. It could have something to do with clicking on or hovering over YouTube menu icon (next to its logo just under web address bar). Start playing a video then do that, then often get the about:blank line.

I can't reproduce the bug any more so far. But there's an introduced bug: the URL sometimes doesn't change or offers a wrong one for other plugins, especially when using previous/next button of the browser.

Something keeps resetting Web Browser setting. I don't know what action prompts this, but often when opening web browser, all bookmarks and last URL are gone, and the settings file in appdata got emptied. Never happens during a session, always after MB's launched. Any idea?

Hi Guys,
I've been using MusicBee for quite a while now and recently installed the web browser / Mp3 Blog file scanner plugin.  It seems to work fine except that I don't seem to have any links displayed at the bottom.

I'm using the latest v2.4 patch version.

The web browser is displayed in the Services node on the left hand side, and I have the browser displayed in its own tab.

When I go to a blog site (eg fluxblog.org) I can see it scanning for files but no links are displayed.  I'm obviously missing something really simple, maybe a setting within MusicBee?  :P

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks heaps.

File list is displayed below the browser in a separate window. Maybe you're using a high-DPI display? What's the spec? For now, try resizing MB to a smaller window or try a lower DPI setting.

Thanks redwing.  Resizing the MB window did the trick and the links "magically" appeared.

Thanks once again!

i have randomly seen cases where the columns for the links are very narrow - is that what you meant? or did you mean the file list didnt display at all until you resized the window?

Hi Steven,
I do actually mean that there are no links displayed until I resize the MB window.

FYI
Windows 7 Home 64 bit
Graphics card is Nvidia GTX 660 (Driver version 337.88)
Monitor is Samsung SyncMaster 206bw

Would be nice if this could support web query using tags of selected/playing track like web tabs of playing track panel. How about supporting such tag-using queries with bookmarks or plugin settings pane?
Title: Re: Web Browser/ Mp3 Blog file scanner
Post by: Storris on September 03, 2014, 05:27:42 PM
When opening Web Browser through the right-click context menu, I'm taken to a Bing search page which has 'Web Browser' as the search query (i.e it has loaded this page - http://www.bing.com/search?q=web+browser&go=Submit&qs=n&form=QBLH&pq=web+browser&sc=8-11&sp=-1&sk=&cvid=3fd79b8b1d4446a19602e2e53a893e7f).

Web Browser has no address bar present when opening through the context menu.

When opened with a left-click, Web Browser has no omni-box function.

When opened with left-click, the browser seems to cache the last search term and next time it starts, that becomes the default 'home page'.  If the last address caused MB to crash as has happened several times, you have to remove the Plugin in order to clear the cache & restore functionality.

Incorporating parts of the first problem for the rest of MB, Context Menu / Web Search, might actually be a good idea, and most of the functionality seems to be in place already.

Same with me. It happens somtimes after restart of MB but not always. Do not not why. I have made a copy of WebBrowserSettings.dat and hope to restore the settings with this when bookmarks are lost again.

Just noting that the wiki page for this plugin has changed:

http://musicbee.wikia.com/wiki/Web_Browser_Plugin

It currently links to the MB 3.0 version of the plugin.

for MusicBee 3+ users:
An embeded Web Browser is no longer supported in the MusicBee application itself. Web links now open in your default browser.
However, you can still view web pages within MusicBee using an updated version of the Web Browser plugin. It has been updated so you can view custom web-links that use the current playing song (wikipedia, youtube, etc)

Hello, I could not find information for this:

I would like to search other pages than those offered with the plugin. I managed to add a link but it opens with a blank search box. In the links that are already integrated (e.g. Wikipedia) it directly inserts the artist that is now playing.

I would like to add for example https://tango.info/?q=<title> to search this db. But like this it does not respond to the now playing track...

Could somebody help me on this?

As someone else pointed out a while ago, the Web browser plugin doesn't remember my bookmarks. I add them correctly, and I can see them in the browser menu, but in the next session, it reverts back to the factory list (last.fm, Wikipedia, YouTube).

Only sometimes it doesn't. i.e. sometimes it remembers my bookmarks and sometimes it forgets them, and I can't figure out what's different on each case.

The web browser in MusicBee is one of the features which makes MusicBee stands out  above all others. Information can be found real quick but lately, due to some restrictions from various sites, the browser is failing miserably. Is it possible to "adapt" some other browser, like Firefox, Chrome, Opera etc to replace the present web browser unless of course, it would be easier to update the present plugin.

Hi, Thanks for such an excellent programme. I use the web browser a lot but recently I have been receiving messages that some sites do not support the version. Any chance of getting an update or maybe changing the browser to Chromium? Is there any way to change the browser itself to some other one which might be installed already on the computer?

@barlet I recommend you to disable the web browser plugin and use Custom Web Links instead. MusicBee Settings / Internet. Then you can search with your default browser in Windows.

If you had read the thread as suggested to you four years ago, you would have seen that Steven removed the web browser, and stopped supporting it, in 2016. So obviously there won't be an update.

Pity, as some sites are not working on it and it is cumbersome to have to have to chang∈ to the regular browser. It was a feature that made MusicBee stand out from all the rest.
