While poking around regarding a question posted by hyber I noticed that the playback does increase in speed while any visualizer is running, about double. This occurs with ASIO or WASAPI, but not directsound. Results were the same on two different audio devices. A similar thread was started back on 9/27/2015, and it looks like a similar issue was already addressed
here. I'm not concerned about the functionality as I do not use visualizers, offered only as a possible bug report.

Test files: flac 44.1/16 and 192/24, mp3 192k
Hardware test 1:
DAC: FiiO X5 Gen2
Driver: FiiO USB DAC Driver v3.34.0
ASIO (also occurs with WASAPI)
Hardware test 2:
DAC: common Realtek onboard audio
Driver: windows
WASAPI (no ASIO option)
