Title: Report Website related bugs/issues here
Post by: KylePolansky on August 14, 2016, 07:40:17 PM
When in "Rip CD" Popup, clicking on "Settings" button without lame.exe will pop up message:

Quote
MP3 encoding requires LAME.EXE which cannot be distributed with MusicBee due to license restrictions. However you can download LAME for personal use - see http://www.getmusicbee.com/help.html (http://www.getmusicbee.com/help.html)

This URL does not work. I believe the correct URL should be: http://getmusicbee.com/help/faq/ (http://getmusicbee.com/help/faq/)

While the help URL text can be changed in future releases, I would recommend adding a redirect on the website so that older versions of the software are pointed to the correct location.

Side Note: I love the new website design!

Hi KylePolansky, thanks for reporting the issue. Currently there are no redirects from the old website. I will fix this issue asap(maybe a day or two).

Side Note: I love the new website design!
:) thanks.

First of all this is a bug report thread, DO NOT POST REQUEST HERE.

Things to keep in mind when posting bugs:

To post an issue click on Reply  (http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?action=post;topic=19362.0;last_msg=115850)and post in this thread directly. No need to create a separate thread.

Two things related to add-ons:

1) The add-ons page uses my official username rather than the display name I use on the forum.  For consistency, it should use the same as the forum (preferably in the URL, too).

2) How do you edit your add-ons once they're posted?  I'm probably overlooking it, but I can't find a way.

On some pages, the menus don't drop down correctly, causing them to pop up and block other menu items:

Go to the Dashboard and select 'view all add-ons.' You'll see them listed on the right side and each one will have an edit icon and a delete icon.

This is because of javascript error in SMF. I will fix it. Can you give me page urls where it is happening.

If you find another page where menu is not working, then yes. otherwise not necessary.

Well, right now it's not working on this thread: http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=19360.msg115925;topicseen#msg115925

I did a force refresh just to be sure.

Edit: it does eventually seem to have sorted itself out.  False alarm?  I'll keep an eye out.

Edit 2: no, it did it again as soon as I saved this post. *hands*

That happens when you access the menu from inside any thread (i.e. while you're reading something). Not only that but you can't access dashboard or profile button either. If you come out of the thread, then it's working fine.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't find a way to get to my PMs. I don't want to send a new one. I want to review or look for one that I received. I expected it to be in the filter drop-down, but it's not there. So where is it?

The way certain buttons only show up on mouseover is okay for the desktop version of the site, where the mouse is naturally going to cause that to happen.  But on the mobile version, it really looks like the buttons don't exist.  You have to actually click on a post to make them appear.  Is there any hope of fixing this?

This is still happening.  As redwing says, it happens on the user profile side, too.  You can get the Dashboard link if you mouse over it very carefully so you don't trigger the user menu.

I don't see any way to log in (or out) on the mobile version. Everything else is a million times better than the previous forum version on mobile (which was essentially non-existent.) On the new version I see where I can register, but I don't see log in/out.

you have to click on the main menu icon. then scroll down to see the log out.

I have tested the site on my devices but there might be few bugs(even site breaking ones), report back if you find any more.

the new forum is only 80% mobile compatible. To be fair it was never designed for modern web, i had to make some major changes to support it. So don't expect the forum to work flawlessly. The rest of the side should work just fine.

Thanks! I don't know why I didn't think to try scrolling. I had previously opened the main menu, but (apparently) never thought to scroll down.

That was the only issue I've run into. Even at 80% compatibility it's a million percent better than what we had.

Once I got used to this, I thought maybe it's not so bad... But then I discovered that the buttons are active even when they're not visible.  That's a bigger problem!

I mean, if I tap on the spot where the button would be, it does the button action even when the button isn't visible.

Another issue I'm running into on mobile is that if I'm trying to move a thread, I can't seem to select a different board.  The menu stays stuck on "Latest Version".  Once, I've had it work - and that was after I'd accidentally moved the thread to Latest Version!

Good day,

I would like to report a security issue in your website your website is vulnerable to xss attack!

This is how to execute the attack

Open your MOzillaFirefox copy this link below

http://getmusicbee.com/addons/s/?q=Hello&type=ThisPartIsvulnerableinXSS%22%3E%3Cimg%20src=x%20onerror=alert(%22blacksheep%22)%20/%3E

My attack will automatic popup in your page!

You must fix this issue!

Thank you!

@Testeronly, thanks for reporting that. I will ask avikB to look into addressing it.
Could you explain how that type of attack can be used against people normally visiting the add-ons page from within the musicbee website ie. wouldn't the attacker to have access to update the PHP page so it generates (for example) a javascript action that opened a malicious web link? Is the point that it can be invoked from an external website that pretends to be the musicbee website?

from what i can gather, this issue would involve some deception from another website linking to the addons page where the link included some malicious javascript code, or an email sent to someone again with a link that does the same. It wouldnt affect anyone visiting the add-ons page via the musicbee website.
Anyone who is more knowledgeable about cross-scripting attacks please correct me if i have it wrong or refine what i have said

yeah, that is pretty much the case.
On the malicious side one can simply steal cookies and verify him as logged in. Ofc the victim has to click on that specialized url. This gets worse, for example if an admin/mod clicks on a crafted link his cookies might get stolen and the attacker gets admin/mod access.

ofcourse he won't be able to change any forum setting or so since SMF asks to re enter password on sensitive operation.

This method does not work on Chromium based browser fortunately.

One thing i have noticed with the member search functionality is it only works correctly with lower case where the member name is in lower case. So if a member name is "Happy" then no match can be made no matter what letter case you search with, but if the member name is "happy" then it works

If Steven is talking about forum PM, that issue is quite a bit tricky, can't seem to reproduce it on my local machine.
I will try to debug the issue after i upgrade the forum on my local machine to see if that only happens on the latest update or not.

If you test using your own name on this forum, it works because your usename is in lower case even though your display name is mixed case

in that case the new update might be the culprit.

It is not a bug. Unfortunately this website does not use HTTPS/SSL. Try using plain http url and it will work fine.
Maybe in far future this website will use SSL.

As someone who defends against security attacks every day on the job, I make a plea to you that SSL happen sooner rather than later since this site handles login credentials.  It's a good bet that at least some of your users use the same password as they do on other accounts despite recommendations otherwise, so not using SSL to protect their login credentials just needlessly increases their risk profile; the consequences of a compromised shared password can be devastating.

I won't harp any further on the issue.

Thanks i do feel your concern. I am hoping in future we could use https://letsencrypt.org/ for ssl.

I am not so sure about applying https://letsencrypt.org/ on a shared hosting, as it requires shell access, and lunarpages(the hosting provider) does not provide any letsencrypt support....yet.

I don't really have any say on this, I created the website for the community but Steven is the MusicBee developer and is hosting the website. He has the final say on this.

Unable to download milk drop. Link results in too many redirects. Tried chrome and edge, same result. Tried link in the forum instead of web page with same result. Downloaded Musicbee 3 and other plugins without issue. Please check; but it could be an issue with my dishnet service, since it has many peculiar issues that come and go. I just tried it and it works perfectly fine. :\
It could be your ISP or maybe cookie issue.
Try clearing cookies and caches and if that does not solve that try any free vpn service.

Yeah this is a known issue with SMF integration with the site. I have fixed it for the 2.0 update.
For now you have to go to forum first then click on the logout.

No worries. I thought it got fixed and it was showing up again.
I only fixed for the v2.0 the update is still pending.  8)

minor visual glitch with dark theme (white corners):
It is because the images are from the original forum theme. These didn't have transparency and there are 40+ icons that needs to be fixed.
Maybe i will fix those, but it is lots of work and i haven't been able to go back to finishing the new website  :(

hopefully in upcoming months.

There's a bug with the drop down list when you're addressing a message.  The list gets hidden behind the message box.  Observed in Chrome.

I can't even message Steven!    ;D

The workaround, if you haven't figured it out yet, is to go to the recipient's profile and select 'send PM' from there.

Yeah, but what if you need to send it to more than one person? I could start a message to Steven and add you, because you're not in a long list. But if you were, I'd be stuck.

I wasn't suggesting this is the fix. Just that it was a way around the issue (until you mentioned multiple recipients.) The behavior definitely needs to be corrected.

I seem to remember another issue with addressing PMs - something with not all users' names showing up when starting to type their name? I'll need to look through this thread when I have more time.

This is a very strange bug. Because it works fine on the test website. and also on my local machine. I am not 100% sure what caused this.
The only thing i can think of is when steven change forum to UTF-8 encoding something in the database got corrupted.  :-\ this is just a speculation, but if true i am afraid i can't do much.

Both issues (members names such as yours and Stevens not appearing, and the drop down overlap) have for sure been reported a long time ago.
But I can't find the posts back, and I can't recall what was said about it either.

Perhaps that was discussed by means of pm, and not discussed on the forum? (I delete all older pm's myself)

Are you sure you have successfully pushed the forum update you intended to do a while back?

For instance, we had some discussions (and a decision) about improving the selection of font colors for forum posts a long time ago, and that still hasn't been implemented...

I am not sure how we discussed it. But the overlap issue can be fixed. I will try to push an update this week.
as for the name not showing, as i said i am not sure. I can't seem to reproduce it  :(. It works fine on the test forum.

as i said it could be that somehow in between SMF's migration(or switching to UTF-8) the database got corrupted.

I haven't pushed any new update for a while. I was thinking of preparing for 2.0 website release. but that seems far fetched at this point due to my time and since 2.0 needed some major rewrite it is not possible. :( However 1.9 update is ready  8) and i will probably push it this month after some testing. I -don't- delete old PMs (although I probably should as I have them going back to 2009) and I can't find any reference to this discussion. And I know there was a discussion because there were a few of us pointing it out. (It would be nice if there was a way to search PMs, but that's for another day.)

I do recall, however, that AvikB said it was something that would be looked at at a later date. But both these issues really need to be fixed. And it's not a browser issue as it occurs in Firefox, Chrome, and IE.

Re: this issue with the name list in messages, and also the forum search. At least for the forum search it was raised in Oct 2016.
It looks like i did the UTF-8 upgrade mid-Sept, so that looks like the most likely culprit.

Search function of SMF forums looks pretty limited. For one thing, can't do case insensitive search.
@Steven:
Can you turn on "Enable simple search" option under Search(Admin)> Search Settings to see if that enables case insensitive search?
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=537400.0

I have a feeling this might be the reason:
i had to use COLLATE utf8_bin instead of COLLATE utf8_general_ci because of duplicate entries.

@AvikB, when you have some time are you able to send me the SQL query that the name list lookup uses? I might be able to just change the tables for name search to use: COLLATE utf8_general_ci

I tried to update the software and copy the patch files and think I was successful. I'm having a very minor issue, but it's annoying as hell because I'm using your software to update the artwork in my extensive collection. It's pretty easy, love the software overall after dealing with the likes of iTunes and various other garbage (thank you!), but this oddity has been bugging me. When I play a song back the artwork will occasionally flicker back to the old artwork I replaced. It maintains in the window above and along the bottom in miniature form, but in the big window it'll alternate every 30 seconds or so. I know you've had at least one person approach you on this in the past and you suggested a patch. I feel like I tried that and there was no change except to some of the pictures in the band folders down the left hand column. There usually, as far as I can tell, is a picture of the album at the top of the folder alphabetically. Some of them changed to photos I have never seen, but the actual artwork attached to each individual album seems to be where I want it, that is until it toggles back and forth during playback. I'm on V3.1.6512. Do I still have to patch this version to get this thing stabilized? To your knowledge, where is the old artwork still residing? I was hoping it wasn't still attached to the actual files vs retained in some sort MB software memory. Anyway, I apologize profusely if you are dealing with this same issue for the billionth time. Thanks in advance. - John

This may be a SMF issue and not so much an issue with the forum itself.

I used to be able to click on the 'filter' button and then select 'recent unread topics.' That would open this URL:
https://getmusicbee.com/forum/?action=unread

When doing that over the past few days, it brings me to the 'unread topics' page, but it shows no unread topics even though there are many. I then noticed, near the top, something I don't recall seeing before: 'click here to try all unread topics.' Clicking it opens this URL:
https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?action=unread;all;start=0 which does indeed show my unread topics.
(http://i.imgur.com/cNvkr4gl.jpg) (https://i.imgur.com/cNvkr4g.jpg)

It's easy enough for me to change my bookmark, but if the 'filter' is no longer working, either the URL attached to it should be updated, or it should be removed completely.

I agree that it's a weird -something.- Right now I'm not so sure it's a bug. As I stated, it's been happening for the past few days. I use Firefox, but just tried it in Chrome and it's working the way it used to. I can't get the forum to load at all in IE. I went back to Firefox and it's working the way it used to.

So my suggestion is - don't do anything for the time being. I'm thinking more and more that it's the latest release of Firefox (57) that's causing issues all over the place. They already announced that most existing extensions will not work unless they get completely rewritten.

A rather futile observation, but mentioning it anyway:

When you are logged in the forum, the start post of a thread is called "reply #1".
When logged out, the first reply is (correctly) called "reply #1".

That's kind of odd as I'm not seeing that behavior. Logged in or not, the second post shows as "Reply #1" regardless of which thread I'm looking at. I also checked another forum that uses SMF and the behavior is as expected whether logged in or not.

Secunia PSI is reporting that the LAME.exe v3.99.2.5 is insecure, and the current available LAME version 3.100 from October 2017 is secure.
It says it's medium critical issue.

I noticed it when I switched to the Windows 10 app version, as the LAME.exe was getting updated automatically by PSI with the desktop version.

Thank you for MusicBee and everything. The design is great, as is the web site.

It counts white spaces as characters too. also it is not very accurate if you are copy and pasting. It is just there as a visual indicator. Ofc you exceed limit and somehow it fails to mention it, there is a backend check and will show alert.

Sorry for the late reply. But it seems a bug in the WYSIWYG editor. And since it is not updated very often or at all i am not sure if it will get fixed until the next major SMF version releases.
But for the meantime here is a workaround:

you can click on the eye icon and enter the BBCode with the URL. it seems to get messed up if you use the WYSIWYG editor.

of course, i understand this, but several dozens of chars vs several thousands? its definitely some bug. also its not an exception, it seems that description editor *always* adds ~4500 chars to char count.

I'm not getting 'daily' notifications, but there's a very long lag from when a 'monitored' thread has a new post and when I received the email notification. I first noticed this about a week or two ago, but attributed it to server slowdown somewhere along the route.

Phone or desktop - both seem to be delayed. I was checking some timestamps of recent posts against the timestamps of received notifications. Typically there's an hour-and-a-half lag before getting the email of a new post. But then again, since the email I use for this is a Yahoo domain, it may very well be Yahoo.

I've solved the problem by subscribing to a nice RSS app on my phone and I'm getting (all) new posts within ten minutes. Unfortunately, when you do a search for 'RSS Reader' on Google Play, there's about six gazillion of them. And on the app itself, I can't find a developer's name or version number. If I find it, I'll post it.

I am pausing the development of this plugin for a month or two due to working on new MusicBee website update.
 :-X
Currently add-ons are sorted by "Published on" date; newest to oldest.
Since you are working on the website, would it be possible to change the sorting to "Updated on" date.
That way an updated add-on would be moved to the first page.
Maybe even an "Updated" banner could be overlaid on the thumb image if the Published and Updated dates don't match?

Ever since the recent website/forum 'meltdown' I have not seen the 'new' designation on new posts. Nor, when using the filter to show 'recent unread posts' does anything show up. And there are definitely new posts since my last check in because I can see the time stamps.
This has been okay for the past few days, but has returned over the past 36+ hours.

Good news: I haven't seen the '500' errors in two days.
Bad news: Issue quoted below is back as of this morning.

You mean these "new" badges? I am seeing this without any issue.

It could be caching issue, since cached pages will take some time to update the cache. But i haven't faced this yet :/

Yes i am planning to have an option for this. Maybe a sorting option like you see on amazon or other shopping website.

Today all is well. Yesterday it was not.

When I click on the filter (top menu bar) and select 'recent unread topics' the resulting screen comes up empty. (It might have a line about 'no new messages' but I can't remember.) Even though there are indeed new messages. When I go to an individual sub-forum, the new messages show the 'new' icon/badge.

But as I said, it's working fine today.

welp hopefully it stays this way.

Also please keep me upto date if the error 500 occurs again.
I am not sure how much performance has been improved with the PHP7 upgrade. :/ Hopefully it should've fixed that issue.

+1 for various sorting options. also maybe it would be better to sort by default by some combination of weights of created date (most important), last updated date and download count?

hmmm.... right now by default the sorting uses the creation date.

On the addon front page the popular addon list uses the download count and like count combination. maybe i should also use the update date, :/

Regarding "..." button on the page list when you're reading a post in a thread, it expands pages properly when your current page is ahead of .... But if your current page is behind ... clicking on the button doesn't help (for instance when you're on page 90, and want to navigate to page 80).

The "Recover your password" feature doesn't work. It's been awhile since I've logged in and I didnt remember my password. It never sent me an email after 3 tries across multiple days (yes, I checked my spam and all of that). Fortunately, I eventually guessed the password so I'm back, but wanted to let you know.

On the help & FAQ, there is a broken link. Under the section "How do I play AAC files in MusicBee" , the link to download the Bass AAC decoder (first bullet point) doesn't work.
I am experiencing errors without it so would appreciate a way to download it. thanks

Not exactly a bug, but where to put this request?

A couple weeks ago I was looking for an mp3 player and my options were unsatisfactory. What I really wanted was a music file organizer! When I realized that, Google gave me a few options and MusicBee appeared. I love it. :)  Just what I wanted. And, of course, it's also a player.

Can I suggest that the html be augmented to make MB pop up sooner when a search for "music player" is entered.

AvikB, i have a problem. if i use esc sequences &lt; &gt; &nbsp; (latter for text indent) in add-on description then all is displayed fine in preview and after saving changes in user view. but if i reopen add-on description for editing these sequences are converted to symbols < > [space] in editor frame. so that, they are just missing in preview/user view. could you make site to preserve all markdown syntax as is on reopening description in editor frame?

This happens because of the cloudflare caching, it caches the english version of the page. Nothing i can do about it at the moment.

I could be wrong, but i think this is caused by the htmlpurifier for security reasons.

Over the past 2-3 days I have arises such a the problem;
I'm glad to hear the problem has been resolved, but something very odd is going on. I looked at the list of banned users and your name/email address doesn't appear at all. This is the list where Steven or the moderators would manually ban a user for various infractions.

I then looked at the ban log and there are 232 hits from the past two days and they all have the same IP address. This address started appearing on September 23. It appears these have been automatically banned. I say this because I know Steven didn't do it, nor did I. And I can't imagine psychoadept doing it either. Of those 232 hits, your name and email address appear six times.

Before I remove the ban, I'd like to confirm your email address and IP address just in case someone is spoofing you. I will send you a PM with the information I'm looking at. If this info is not yours, I won't remove the ban and we'll have to wait for Steven to take a look at it and offer up his opinion.

If you're using any sort of cookie management, and even if you aren't, make sure your MB cookies are set to 'always allow.'
And it apparently is only you since this is the first time seeing a post about this issue.
As a test try a different browser.

You're welcome. I'm not guaranteeing that it's on your side, but it seems likely. I for one, have mostly given up on Firefox since it no longer supports most of the extensions I feel are vital to my web browsing habits. I'm using a Firefox fork called Waterfox. It comes in two versions: Classic and Current. Both keep getting updated with security patches, but Classic runs all my extensions, while Current only runs a few. I also use a great cookie manager called Self-Destructing Cookies, which seems to only work with WF Classic.

Good luck.

I think I was logged-in all along but what the site/forum shows was misleading. For example, now I'm seeing the dashboard, an account icon and a messages icon top right. But if I open the main site link in another tab (https://www.getmusicbee.com/) I see the login and register links top right. From there, if I click the forum link I get to the main forum page and, again, I see the login and register top right. Now, if I click on the bug reports, sub-forum, I finally see that I'm logged in. This is a single session, one tab I'm logged in, the other opened and doing those actions after I'm seemingly logged in and while typing this message.
Title: MB website: corrupt redirection after login
Post by: KangNi on November 09, 2020, 06:34:23 PM

We now login via the "Login" button on here ...

After an successful login we became redirected to here ..
 "https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=29819.0 (https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=29819.0)"
... what doesnt work (please note the two parameter separators ? ... ?) ...

... because the url shoul look like this ...
 "https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=29819.0 (https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=29819.0)"

Could this become fixed please, because its annoying us since ages now :)

I'm not certain, but this may be a function of the forum software itself, over which we have little control. Steven or AvikB would have to confirm this.

Hi there,

I'm still getting "Database Error" when I want to view "Sent Items".
In the message list I can see that I have replied to messages (marked with a backward arrow) , but in the "Conversation" view all my sent messages are not displayed.

I've just found out that in my message settings "Save a copy of each personal message in my sent items by default." was disabled.
It looks to me that this could be the reason, but enabling it didn't change anything for still getting the above mentioned "Database Error".
Maybe I need to send again a message to have a look whats happen.

Just a thought: could it have something to do with that my profile username differs from my display name?

Thank You already.
Greetings

Starting about a week ago, email notifications to me about new replies to topics I'm watching have been delayed at least four hours. Sometimes longer.
This includes replies to watched threads and moderator notifications sent by users when reporting spam.

Today's example is spam that was reported by a user at 1:36pm Eastern (US) Time. I received the email notification at 5:08pm. Typically there's not much more than a five minute delay.

Is anyone else seeing something like this? I'm guessing the problem is SMF, but it certainly can be my ISP. Except no other email is being delayed.

Yes, you've done something because I received the notification email about ten minutes after you replied.

Thanks Steven.

Hello, I've just recognized that there seems to be a problem with private SEND-messages: They can't be displayed at all. (at least for me).

That's what I get when clicking on "Send Items":

DATABASE ERROR
Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.

Can anyone have a look please?

Greetings

Hi there. I just would like to state, that the above mentioned issue is still not fixed in my case.  :(
Could anybody of the forum administrators help here?

Thank you in advance.
Greetings, KangNi

p.s. My profile username differs from my display name. I just wonder if this could trigger a bug?

There are two moderators here - psychoadept and myself - and neither of us can look into this. The only thing I can suggest is to wait until Steven has some time to investigate it.

This is true for me, too, so I don't think that's it.

The FAQ page appears to be empty:
https://getmusicbee.com/help/faq/

Checked on Chrome and Edge, logged in and logged out. Not sure if this is intentional or not, but there are forum posts referencing content on that page which does not exist.

Yeah, it's weird.  The topics are down the side there, including the actual FAQ (https://musicbee.fandom.com/wiki/FAQ).
Title: Intermittently unable to log in to the website.
Post by: MikeJarrett on February 03, 2024, 08:10:47 PM
Hi
I have intermittent but frequent issues logging in to the website. See the linked screen print for the error message.

I posted this issue wrongly on the application bug forum earlier today. In my previous post I said I thought the issue was specific to the Brave broswer, but since then it has started happening in Edge too. Just now, I got the same error message persistently in both Edge and Brave for quite a few minutes of retries, and both browsers kept producing the error despite clearing all cookies and website data in in both browsers, restarting the browsers, and retrying the login multiple times. Then suddenly it starts working fine in both browsers and I can successfully log in.

Brave is up to date: Version 1.62.156 Chromium: 121.0.6167.139 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Edge is up to date via the usual Windows 11 automatic update process.
