Title: Google Music Playlist Sync
Post by: leo_r on October 17, 2013, 08:49:44 PM
(http://i.imgur.com/rkyj2Ac.png)

All instructions are on the Plugin Wiki Page (http://musicbee.wikia.com/wiki/Google_Music_Playlist_Sync).

DOWNLOAD HERE (https://github.com/leoedin/MBGmusicSync/blob/master/Plugin/mb_GoogleMusicSync_v1.7.zip?raw=true). Extract both files into the MusicBee\Plugins directory.

If MusicBee crashes before it loads: Make sure you're running version 2.5.5524 or later.

If you can't login: Check you've enabled "Less secure apps" for your Google account. (https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps)

If you previously used version 1.0 of this plugin
- Delete the file "GMusicAPI.dll" from the MusicBee\Plugins directory
- Delete the file "gmusicStream.Settings.xml" from C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\MusicBee

Changelog:

25th April 15, V 1.7: Fixed the bug that meant playlists weren't properly synced back to MusicBee
18th Feb 2015, V 1.5: Reworked plugin significantly so it's much more robust.

thanks for this!  i intend to try it once i get some time.  (though really looking to getting my GPlay library in sync with my MB library, hopefully you or boroda can get that side of things working...)

Very nice!

It would be super helpful if you could add your plugin to the wiki.  Most plugin developers are maintaining their notes there and answering questions here.

If you have any questions about how to add it, I'm happy to help.

Hello. Will there be an update to this plugin? I have MusicBee 2.3.5188 and the plugin doesn't work :( It doesn't even appear in my list of plugins. Am I doing something wrong? I much prefer this addon than others. I like to upload the music myself and then have MusicBee update my playlists on Google Music.
Thank you.

Hey! I haven't really done any work on this since I released it, but I'll have a look next week some time. Hopefully there's not too much work required! It's good to hear there's interest!

I can't speak for others, but I really love this plugin. I upload all my music to Google Music, but what I want is to manage the playlists on my desktop, and have them be reflected on Google Music. But I don't use GM as my PRIMARY music player. I prefer to use MusicBee! That's why your plugin is fantastic! Thank you for considering working on it :)

It's good to know someone's using it!

I've just updated my MusicBee installation to 2.3.5188 and it still seems to work. I installed it over the previous installation and the plugin still appears in the list and appears to work as it did before.

Do you have all 3 DLLs in your "MusicBee\Plugins" directory? I'm not familiar enough with MusicBee to know what would cause a plugin to not appear in the list at all.

Thank you very much for this. I keep a playlist on Google Music which downloads the songs in it to my device, so you can imagine how this makes stuff easier.

Although it is not completely working for me. I'm on 2.4.5233, doesn't sync from Google and everytime I hit the sync button I see repeated local playlists in the plugin. Syncing to Google works great.

I'm sad to say that it's not working anymore :( ...

It says that it logs in and then it gets stuck at fetching playlists. It doesn't do anything anymore :-\ Probably a google change or something like that. Can you confirm this? :) Thanks!

EDIT: Working again, probably error on Google's side :) Thanks!

Hey any tips for people using app passwords to log in? Mine is stuck on "fetching remote playlists." I tried reinstalling the plugin to see if that helps. I'm using the latest 2.3 version.

EDIT: how strange, it suddenly works. No idea where the issue comes from but I'm glad it's resolved itself. (see also: post above this one)

I'll see if I can reproduce the issues people are facing. It sounds like it's possibly an issue with Google Music or some poor network handling code on my part - probably a mixture of the two. I'm hoping that I'll have some time soon to look at the plugin and improve it somewhat.

Sorry for my silence - I thought I'd set up email alerts on this thread, but obviously not.

So I tried this plugin when it was first release and a couple of times since and it has just never worked (always got stuck on fetching remote playlists).

Tried again today with little hope since not having my playlists on the go (I use GPlay Music exclusively on my phone) was a real sore point for me...  Anyway, it worked!  Don't know why now and why not ever before, but so happy!

Thanks leo_r!

First of all, THANK YOU for making such an awesome plugin... I've been annoyed by the cloud based/desktop non playlist syncing issue for YEARS and just ran across MusicBee and this plugin.. this will be what makes me a MusicBee Believer.

Although I'm also experiencing the issue of not being able to sync FROM google.  I tried downloading again and re-installing, still no luck.  When I have several playlist selected to copy from google I hit synchronize and everything seems to happen very quickly and the "synchronize complete" pops up yet the playlists don't appear in the MusicBee playlist pane.

I'm afraid I get the never ending 'Fetching Remote Playlists' too - left it over night and it was still going in the morning...

Any ideas? I'm on MB 2.5.5470.

Cheers,

Dan

Sorry for the terrible delay in updating this thread.

This week I've updated the plugin and it appears to work fairly well at syncing playlists TO Google Music. Syncing from Google Music doesn't work at all - I think it may be an issue with the MusicBee API. I'll post an updated plugin once I've got that working again.

I've now released the updated plugin, which will hopefully be more robust and work for more people. Please have a look at the first post of this thread (now edited) for more information. This includes working sync both ways.

Hey! Thanks for testing it
Is there any error message shown? I'll have a look at the code tonight see if I can work out what might be happening.

Nope, just the standard Windows msg: "Musicbee has stopped working". Once I take the mb_GoogleMusicSync back out of plugins, it works fine.

Post by: leo_r on March 04, 2015, 09:28:46 PM
Hey! I've tweaked the error handling and added some logging so maybe we can figure out exactly where the problem is.

Can you first delete all traces of the plugin:

From the MusicBee\Plugins directory:
Delete mb_GoogleMusicSync and Newtonsoft.Json.dll and any other files with the same name (but different file extensions) - if there's anything that ends in .pdb, .dll, .xml or .config with either of those names, delete that.

From the C:\Users\<yourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\MusicBee directory:
Delete gMusicPlaylistSync.Settings.xml and gmusicStream.Settings.xml if either exist

Then download version 1.6 from here:
https://github.com/leoedin/MBGmusicSync/blob/master/Plugin/mb_GoogleMusicSync_v1.6wLogging.zip?raw=true

Extract the 2 DLL files there into your MusicBee\Plugins directory

If MusicBee still fails to launch, the version I've linked above saves a log with some of the steps it's taking to C:\Users\<yourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\MusicBee\gMusicPlaylistSync.log.txt - post the contents of that (if it exists). If it doesn't exist, let me know.

I've changed the plugin to add a menu item under the Tools menu - look there to launch it.

Let me know how that goes!

Note: This version logs quite a few things to file, and the log will keep growing. If it works, check back for an updated non-logging version.

No joy I'm afraid. I followed all the steps exactly as you said, but it still crashed. No log file was created in the destination you listed...

Hmmm... That's frustrating. I'm not able to reproduce it unfortunately, so it's pretty hard to identify the issue. I'll have another look this evening, but without more information I'm not really sure what I can do.

Do you have any other plugins installed? I guess there could be some sort of conflict between them? I think the crash is happening before any of my code is executed, which makes it hard to pin down the cause.
Title: Re: Google Music Playlist Sync
Post by: danprice85 on March 06, 2015, 05:28:31 PM
Yeah I do - a lot, it's a bit out of control to be honest. I'll delete the lot and start again, see if it helps...
Title: Re: Google Music Playlist Sync
Post by: danprice85 on March 06, 2015, 05:45:52 PM
Right, I deleted them all, put this one in by itself, but it still crashed. Shame, but I understand it might be a quirk of my system and nothing wrong at your end...
Title: Re: Google Music Playlist Sync
Post by: leo_r on March 06, 2015, 05:56:32 PM
Thanks for doing that! I'll have a look again this evening if I have time. Unfortunately I won't be able to look at this again for at least a week after that.

Title: Re: Google Music Playlist Sync
Post by: danprice85 on March 06, 2015, 06:26:11 PM
Hey Leo - - Ok. I updated to the latest v2.5 beta and it no longer crashes, which is great. It also now fetches my songs - equally great! However, 'Sync selected' remains greyed out even once I selected the playlists to sync... any ideas?! Allow less secure apps is enabled, and I've tried only doing non-nested playlists. Thanks for all your help.
Title: Re: Google Music Playlist Sync
Post by: leo_r on March 06, 2015, 06:40:25 PM
Such an obvious thing to miss! Sorry I didn't confirm my version earlier. I guess maybe the version of the API I used is not backwards compatible (and leads to crashes if you try!). I'll maybe build the next version with an earlier API to avoid this problem in the future. Thanks for trying so many things!

The "Sync selected" button *should* be enabled when the software has finished fetching all your songs and playlists from Google Music. Are there playlists shown in the Google Music playlists box on the right? Does it say "Playlists fetched!" on the top right hand side? The most likely scenario is that it's failed to fetch your songs/playlists properly and so has never completed that last step.
Title: Re: Google Music Playlist Sync
Post by: danprice85 on March 06, 2015, 06:49:31 PM
Well, I didn't have any playlists in Google Music. I made one, with one song, and it work straight away - perhaps that's a requirement for the plugin to be able to complete the sync? All my local playlists have successfully synced though... Problem solved!!

Thanks mate, you've been a great help. Fingers crossed that Google don't jumble the API again anytime soon!!

That would probably explain it. I'll update the software to work even if you have no google playlists.

No problem! I'm glad it's useful for someone else.

Hey Leo,

I'm on MusicBee 2.5.5524 and I'm having some issues getting this plugin to work. I can enable it just fine, but when I click configure, I see the following error message:

Google Music Sync (1.6.1)
Leo R****n
Sync your playlists to Google Play Music

I haven't been prompted to log in to Google Play, so I'm unsure where to proceed from here. Thank you for your work on this!!

gMusicPlaylistSync.log contained this:

Adding menu

Getting settings

Creating PlaylistSync object

Thanks!

Try opening the plugin from the Tools menu instead. The later version (1.6) that I think you're using is accessed via the Tools menu - I haven't had a chance to update the instructions yet.

Well, almost perfect. I have my playlists syncing from MusicBee to Google Play, However, I can't seem to sync the other way, despite multiple attempts. Any thoughts on this? Is this something the plugin should be able to do?
Title: Re: Google Music Playlist Sync

Hmm... Is there songs in the playlist you're trying to sync that are also in your Music Bee library? How many songs are in the playlist on Google music that you're trying to sync? Does an empty playlist with the correct name get created?

Hey ... this would be an AWESOME thing .... if it actually works.

I have tried the old version of MusicBee. I have tried the new version of MusicBee. I have two different versions of the plugins. I have tried both ways. MusicBee have always crashed when with Google Play plugin.

MusicBee works great with XBox feature tho.

I hope you may fix this issue. I would LOVE to use Google Music Unlimited with MusicBee.

Keep on trying !!!
Title: Re: Google Music Playlist Sync
Post by: leo_r on March 20, 2015, 09:11:20 AM
Hello!

Unfortunately because of the way this works it will never work with Google Music Unlimited. It can only create playlists with songs which appear in both music libraries already - ones which you have uploaded to Google music.

It seems that unless you are using the latest MusicBee beta it definitely crashes.

Sorry for not responding sooner, I stopped getting email notifications for some reason...

Anyway, to answer your questions. All songs in the playlists I'm attempting to sync are in my MusicBee library. I have a number of playlists I want to sync, but the largest one is nearly 1000 songs (973). There is no blank playlist created, it doesn't appear that anything happens. Sync still works from MusicBee to Google Play, but not the other way around.

Having a problem with this that I haven't seen anyone else mention.

The first time I run MusicBee after installing the plugin, it appears to work fine - the only issue is that when I log into Google Music, I briefly see a message: "ERROR: couldn't save settings", but then my Google song list downloads and I can sync playlists with no problems. But the next time, and every subsequent time I run MusicBee, I get the following error when trying to start the plugin:

I can get it working again if I go into my MusicBee\AppData folder and delete MusicBeeSettings.ini (or restore a previous version from a backup) and gMusicPlaylistSync.Settings.xml (which is a 0 byte file); but obviously this isn't ideal.

Any ideas what's going wrong?

I discovered another way to transfer playlists to Google Music:
Install gmusic-playlist.js (https://github.com/soulfx/gmusic-playlist.js) in Chrome, export MusicBee playlist as m3u, open then save with notepad (to convert unicode characters), open in Mp3tag, export to csv (example code below), then import the csv in Google Music.
Quote
$filename(csv,utf-8)title,artist,album,playlist
$loop(%artist%)"$regexp(%title%,",)","$regexp(%artist%,",)","$regexp(%album%,",)",playlistname
$loopend()

Honestly, you're best off exporting your playlists to a spreadsheet and then using something like this (https://github.com/soulfx/gmusic-playlist).  You'll need Python installed, but it works really well.
